The TTC is closing Line 2 Bloor - Danforth between Woodbine and St George stations all day Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2. Line 2 subway trains operate only between Kennedy and Woodbine stations and between Kipling and St George stations those days.
Shuttle buses partially replace Line 2 service. The buses drop off or pick up passengers on the street near all stations on the closed section of the line. TTC staff are available at each station to direct you to shuttle-bus stops.

Most stations remain open so you can pay fares or connect with TTC buses, streetcars and Line 1 Yonge - University trains. However, Chester, Sherbourne and Bay stations are closed. The TTC is also closing the Lipton Avenue entrance / exit at Pape Station.
Although all shuttle buses are accessible, Wheel-Trans is also available from all stations. Ask any TTC staff member for information about Wheel-Trans frequency and stops.
While this section of Line 2 is closed, TTC crews are maintaining the tracks. According to a TTC news release, “While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and [signal] upgrades.”
The City of Toronto is revising parking regulations near Woodbine Station to improve the flow of shuttle buses while the subway is closed.
The TTC is closing this section of Line 2 twice more in August:
- Tuesday, August 4 to Thursday, **August 6 - Woodbine to St George - close early - track work.
- Saturday, August 15 - Broadview to St George - open late - City of Toronto beam replacement on the Prince Edward Viaduct.
Shuttle buses
Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2, westbound buses start their trips on Strathmore Boulevard beside Woodbine Station bus terminal, then proceed:
eastward along Strathmore;
southward along Cedarvale Avenue;
westward along Danforth Avenue, the Prince Edward Viaduct and Bloor Streets East and West; and then
northward along St. George Street to beside St George Station,
ending their trips.(The buses then loop:
(northward along St. George;
(eastward along Prince Arthur Avenue; and then
(southward along Bedford to their starting point for westbound trips.)Westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops
- on Strathmore Boulevard beside Woodbine Station,
- on Danforth Avenue at Coxwell Avenue, Linnsmore Crescent, Donlands, Pape, Chester and Broadview Avenues,
- on Bloor Street East at Castle Frank Road and Sherbourne and Yonge Streets,
- on Bloor Street West at Bay Street and
- on St. George Street beside St George Station.
Eastbound buses start their trips on Bedford Road beside St George Station, then proceed:
southward along Bedford;
eastward along Bloor Streets West and East, the Prince Edward Viaduct and Danforth Avenue;
northward along Woodbine Avenue; and then
eastward along Strathmore Boulevard to a temporary stop beside Woodbine Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops
- on Bedford Road beside St George Station,
- on Bloor Street West at Bay and Yonge Streets,
- on Bloor Street East at Sherbourne Street and Castle Frank Road,
- on Danforth Avenue at Broadview Avenue, across from Chester Avenue, at Pape Avenue, across from Donlands Avenue, and at Linnsmore Crescent and Coxwell Avenues and
- on Strathmore Boulevard beside Woodbine Station bus terminal.
Shuttle-bus alternatives
One way that you can reduce the impact of the closure is by planning ahead, leaving earlier than usually and giving yourself more time to get to where you’re going.
Although shuttle buses replacing subway service will be frequent, they may also be crowded.
Regular TTC buses and streetcars provide less frequent, less direct, but, perhaps, less stressful alternatives.
Consider boarding regular TTC buses between subway stations on the closed section of the line and stations on open sections as a way to bypass the shuttle buses entirely.
Board:
- buses along the 94 Wellesley route at Ossington Station to Wellesley and Castle Frank Stations.
- streetcars along the 504A King route at Dundas West Station to St Andrew and King stations;
- streetcars along the 505 Dundas route at Dundas West Station to St Patrick, Dundas and Broadview Stations.
- buses along the 506 Carlton route at Main Street Station to College and Queen’s Park stations.
Parking
To reduce congestion and help improve travel times for all road users on Danforth Avenue during the subway closure, the City of Toronto is temporarily restricting parking from 5 a.m. Saturday, August 1 until 2 a.m. Sunday, August 2 and from 7 a.m. Sunday until 2 a.m. Emancipation Day, Monday, August 3:
- on Woodbine Avenue, northbound, between Danforth Avenue and Strathmore Boulevard;
- on Strathmore Boulevard, eastbound, between Woodbine and Cedarvale Avenues;
- on Cedarvale Avenue, southbound, between Strathmore Boulevard and Danforth Avenue; and
- on Danforth Avenue, westbound between Cedarvale and Woodbine Avenues.
