Barton East Hamilton construction: HSR detour, starting October 19



Update — Monday, October 19, 8:03 a.m.: The City is revising the dates for the construction, affecting, in turn, the timing of the HSR detour.


(Updated — Monday, October 19, 8:03 a.m.) Starting Monday, October 19 Wednesday, October 21, the City of Hamilton is closing

  • Barton Street East, eastbound lanes, between Kenilworth Avenue North and Harmony Avenue,

during a project to repair the roadway after recent water-main construction.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses along this route, while the street is closed:

  • 2 Barton.

2 Barton

Inbound buses operate along their regular route.

(Updated — Monday, October 19, 8:03 a.m.) From Monday, October 19 until Friday, October 30From Wednesday, October 21 until Wednesday, November 4, outbound buses operate along their regular route to Barton Street East and Kenilworth Avenue North, then detour:

southward along Kenilworth North;
eastward along Cannon Street East and Britannia Avenue; and then
northward along Strathearne Avenue to Barton East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Barton.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Barton Street East at Harmony Avenue and Cope Street, beyond Fairfield Avenue and at Strathearne Avenue.

Instead, outbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Kenilworth Avenue North at Albany Avenue,
  • on Cannon Street East beyond Kenilworth Avenue North and at Cameron Avenue North and
  • on Britannia Avenue at Tragina Avenue North and Fairfield and Strathearne Avenues.

Inbound buses operate toward downtown.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown.
