Simcoe North Oshawa construction: DRT, GO detours, starting Novmber 17



Starting 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 17, the Region of Durham and the City of Oshawa are closing:

  • Simcoe Street North (Regional Road 2), northbound lanes, between Britannia Avenue East and Windfield Farms Drive East

to accommodate a regional project to widen and rebuild Simcoe North between Winchester and Conlin Roads.

Region contractors started the project Monday, May 25.

Durham Region Transit is detouring buses along this route, while the traffic lanes are closed:

GO Transit is likely also detouring buses along this route, but has not announced detour-routing information:

  • 52 Oshawa / Highway 407.

Construction on this part of Simcoe North and the resulting DRT and GO detours continue until December 4.

The Region expects to complete the entire project “by July 2021”, meaning construction continues as long as until July 31, 2021.

Buses operate along their regular route.

Southbound buses operate along their regular route.

From 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 17 until 6 p.m. Friday, December 4, northbound buses operate along their regular route to Simcoe Street North and Britannia Avenue East, then detour:

westward along Britannia East;
northward along Kentucky Derby Way; and then
eastward along Windfield Farms Drive West to Simcoe North,
resuming their regular route northward along Simcoe.

Nortbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Simcoe Street North at Northern Dancer Drive, Britannia Avenue East and Windfield Farms Drive East.

Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Britannia Avenue West at Thoroughbred Street and Kentucky Derby Way and
  • on Windfield Farms Drive West at Thoroughbred Street.
