Eglinton - Crosstown LRT - Chaplin: Road closure, TTC detour, starting January 11

Metrolinx contractors continue building the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line between Mount Dennis and Kennedy.


Starting 6 a.m. Monday, January 11, the City of Toronto is closing

  • Chaplin Crescent south of Eglinton Avenue West,

while crews reinstate the water main.

The City is also closing the laneway south of Eglinton West between Chaplin and Russell Hill Road behind Toronto Fire Station 135 (641 Eglinton Avenue West) during the work.

Crews work every day from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Water-main construction near the future Chaplin Station, the road closure and the resulting TTC detour and delays continue “through late February”, meaning as late as until February 28.


For transit passengers

  • The TTC is detouring buses along this route, while the street is closed:
  • 14 Glencairn.

The TTC has also already relocated bus stops in the area. It may also temporarily further relocate stops near work zones. Passengers aboard buses along these routes can also expect significant delays:

  • 32A / 32C Eglinton West;
  • 33 Forest Hill; and
  • 332 Eglinton West overnight.

For pedestrians

  • A work zone blocks the sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton between Chaplin and just west of Russell Hill Road. You must walk on the north side.
  • A work zone blocks the sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton just west of Chaplin. You must walk on the north side.
  • A work zone blocks the sidewalk on the west side of Chaplin just south of Eglinton. You must walk on the east side.
  • A work zone blocks the sidewalk on the east side of Chaplin between Spadina Road and Eglinton. You must walk on the west side.
  • You must walk around the work zone on Latimer Avenue, by detouring north, then across Latimer, then south to continue walking east- or westward along the north side of Eglinton West.
  • The laneway south of Eglinton West between Chaplin Crescent and Russell Hill Road behind Toronto Fire Station 135 (641 Eglinton Avenue West) is closed.
  • Crews have relocated the east-west crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton at Chaplin further south on Chaplin than usually, due to the work zones on the south side of Eglinton east and west of Chaplin. West-side pedestrians on Chaplin must cross at this crosswalk. You cannot walk further north on the west side until you cross Eglinton.
  • An unsignalized pedestrian island crosswalk remains available on Chaplin Crescent at Spadina.
  • A work zone blocks the north-south crosswalk on the west side of Chaplin. You must cross on the east side.

For motorists

  • Starting 6 a.m. Monday, January 11, Chaplin Crescent is closed to all traffic south of Eglinton Avenue West.
  • Work zones block eastbound lanes on the south side of Eglinton West east and west of Chaplin.
  • Another work zone blocks northbound traffic lanes on Chaplin north of Eglinton.
  • Just one lane is available for traffic in each direction on Eglinton from west of Chaplin to Russell Hill. Traffic flows on the north side of the roadway.
  • Just one lane is available for traffic in each direction on Chaplin north of Eglinton. Traffic flows on the west side of the roadway.
  • You can’t turn in any direction from eastbound Eglinton onto Chaplin.
  • You can’t turn left from westbound Eglinton onto southbound Chaplin.
  • Latimer Road and Gilgorm Road remain closed to traffic at Eglinton.
  • The laneway south of Eglinton West between Chaplin Crescent and Russell Hill Road behind Toronto Fire Station 135 (641 Eglinton Avenue West) is closed.

For nearby residents and business people

  • Expect to hear noise from a crane, an excavator, trucks, a compactor and other heavy equipment.
  • Expect to see site-lighting overnight.
  • Trucks stage in work zones and on the median on Chaplin north of Eglinton.
  • Deep excavation continues during the closure all day, every day.

14 Glencairn

From 6 a.m. Monday, January 11 until Monday, March 1, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Chaplin Crescent and Eglinton Avenue West, then detour:

eastward along Eglinton West; and then
southward along Russell Hill Road to Chaplin,
resuming their regular route southeastward along Chaplin.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Chaplin Crescent across from Russell Hill Road.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Chaplin Crescent and Tarlton Road, then detour:

northward along Tarlton; and then
westward along Eglinton Avenue West to Chaplin,
resuming their regular route northwestward along Chaplin.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Chaplin Crescent northwest of Russell Hill Road and at Eglinton Avenue West.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Eglinton Avenue West at Heddington Avenue and across from Russell Hill Road.
