Starting Monday, February 1, the TTC is rebuilding an underground utility chamber and duct bank
- on Dovercourt Road, east side, just north of Queen Street West.
The utility chamber is on the northeast corner of the intersection, while the duct bank extends along the east curb lane and connects to a utility chamber in front of #127 Dovercourt Road, which the TTC rebuilt in 2019. The chamber is part of a network in Toronto that provides access to electrical and communication cabling for TTC and other utility companies.
TTC is co-operating with the City of Toronto during its project (.pdf) to rebuild the water main in the area. The City’s contractor will demobilize the area before February 1, when the TTC’s crew starts working.
TTC crews are:
- excavating the roadway to expose the utility chambers;
- rebuilding the concrete chamber; and
- restoring the roadway.
Starting as early as 7 a.m., February 1, crews set up a safe work zone and temporary traffic controls. Equipment, materials and the work zone / traffic controls remain on-site until crews have completed the project.
This section of Dovercourt Road is currently one-way southbound due to the City’s water-main project. The one-way southbound regulation remains in place during TTC’s chamber and duct work. To make sure that traffic continues to safely move southbound through the work zone on Dovercourt, the City is temporarily prohibiting on-street parking in the immediate area.
Northbound traffic has no access to Dovercourt from Queen West. The work zone also restricts westbound traffic on Queen to just one lane throuth the Queen / Dovercourt intersection. Two eastbound traffic lanes remain available.
Westbound passengers aboard TTC buses along these routes can expect delays at Dovercourt:
- 301L Queen / Long Branch overnight;
- 501L Queen / Long Branch; and
- 501P Queen / Park Lawn.
The work zone also temporarily blocks the Dovercourt end of the laneway north of Queen that extends between Dovercourt and Fennings Street during working hours. Use Fennings Street to access the laneway. The work zone also blocks the east-west pedestrian crosswalk on the north side of the intersection for safety.
Crews work Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. They may occasionally work Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., when necessary to maintain the project timeline.
TTC crews continue rebuilding underground infrastructure at Dovercourt / Queen West “for approximately 8 weeks”, meaning as late as until March 29.
