Early works for Queen West / King West / Queensway / Roncesvalles project continue



Update — Sunday, March 28, 4:39 p.m.: Early works continue until April 4.


Contractors are starting the next series of early works before they start a major City of Toronto / TTC project to replace the streetcar infrastructure and improve the streetscape

  • at the intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue.

Starting Tuesday, February 12, City contractors are replacing the water mains

  • at the Queen West / King West / Queensway / Roncesvalles intersection; and
  • on Queen Street West between Roncesvalles Avenue / King Street West and west of Triller Avenue.

Crews work Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. to:

  • excavate the roadway and installing the new water main; and
  • replace any City-owned water-service pipes between the water main and the private property line.

The work zone temporarily blocks curb lanes in all directions through the intersection and on Queen West. Centre lanes remain available for motorists and cyclists in all directions.


Starting Monday, March 1, the contractors are lining the sewers

  • on The Queensway, south side between Parkside Drive and King Street West.

Starting Monday, March 8, they are lining the sewers

  • on The Queensway, north side between Roncesvalles and Glendale Avenues.

Crews work Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. to:

  • clean the interior of sanitary and storm sewers;
  • install a liner in the sewers to seal cracks and joints;
  • repair maintenance holes; and
  • upgrade the City-owned part of sewer connections (where necessary).

One lane in each direction is available for motorists and cyclists.

Sidewalks remain open at all times. The City is temporarily prohibiting parking near the work zones.

Construction on the underside of the bridge carrying The Queensway over Parkside Drive ends February 11. All lanes of traffic are available on Parkside. TTC buses along the 80 Queensway route resume regular service under the bridge. Starting Tuesday, February 12, contractors start rehabilitating the topside of the bridge.

Since Sunday, January 3, the TTC has replaced streetcars with buses through the area. Passengers aboard buses along these routes can expect delays through the area:

  • 301L Queen / Long Branch overnight;
  • 304C King / Shaw overnight;
  • 501L Queen / Long Branch;
  • 501P Queen / Park Lawn; and
  • 504C King / Shaw.
