Queen East track repairs: TTC detour, February 13

From 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, February 13, TTC track crews are repairing a broken rail

  • on Queen Street East between Booth and Empire Avenues.

Crews work only in the track area to:

  • break and remove concrete to expose the old rail;
  • replace the old rail with new rail; and
  • place asphalt.

The TTC is detouring streetcars along this route, while crews repair the rail:

Shuttle buses replace the cars east of Broadview Avenue.

The crew breaks concrete from about 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. to expose the rail it intends to replace, while streetcars continue to operate through the work zone.

From 3 until 8 p.m., the TTC detours the cars to allow the track crew to cut and replace the rail. Installing the new rail requires them to weld and grind the new rail. They’ll place asphalt in the track area so that streetcar service can resume by 8 p.m.

The work zone restricts traffic to the curb lanes. It may also block motorists from turning left onto or off of Queen East.
