Agincourt GO Station: Temporary pedestrian detour, starting March 8



Metrolinx continues to update amenities, enhance accessibility and make accessing services at Agincourt GO Station easier and more convenient, as part of the GO Expansion Program.


Starting “the week of” Monday, March 8, GO Transit is closing the pedestrian track-crossing and pathway connecting Marilyn Avenue and the intersection of Lockie Avenue with Agincourt Drive to accommodate construction at Agincourt GO Station. Directional signs guide you around the work zone along a temporary pedestrian detour.

Construction at Agincourt GO Station blocks the pedestrian pathway between Marilyn and Lockie Avenues “approximately one week”, meaning as late as until March 19.


Since Monday, January 25, GO has closed the station building and opened a temporary passenger trailer with washrooms.

Since Monday, January 11, it has also relocated the PRESTO fare machines near the platform next to the trailer.

Since February, GO has been demolishing the station building to accommodate construction work on the north side of the platform and the new station building. GO is demolishing the building because it conflicts with part of the west-side train platform that is currently under construction.

By the end of this project, the contractors will have built a new station building, a second platform and new pedestrian tunnels with elevators. Construction at Agincourt GO Station continues until “later this year”, meaning as late as until December 31.

Since Wednesday, December 23, 2020, GO has temporarily changed how you access the station to accommodate ongoing construction activities to build a new station structure.

GO extended the construction zone beside the station building westward to include part of the central parking lot. Crews have set up a temporary pedestrian pathway and crossing from the Dowry Street entry to the current GO Station building and platform. They also set up a pathway to connect pedestrians from Dowry Street to the Sheppard Avenue East entry.

Construction signs are in place to direct pedestrians to access the GO Station and these temporary pedestrian pathways.


Since Saturday, August 19, 2020 GO has opened a temporary south platform. It also closed the north platform and north walkway for construction.

Two new entrances safely lead you to the new platform - one is near the station building and another farther south, giving you direct access to the platform from the parking lot.

Not all doors on your train will open at Agincourt. If you’re unsure, check the graphic in this post or ask a Customer Service Ambassador for help. You may have to adjust where you normally board your train. Some coaches won’t open from outside of the train. Spread out along the platform and keep the accessibility coach available for those who need it most. Agincourt Graphic_ENG.png

The new platform means a shorter walk from the bus loop and parking lot to where you board your train. GO is also temporarily relocating accessible parking to the north parking lot.

GO says, as work progresses, you can expect more changes to the parking lots. However, the current number of parking spaces will remain the same.

When crews have finished working on the south side of the platform and installed the first tunnel and elevator, they’ll start working on the north side of the station. Door restrictions will also change then.


Crews continue building a new canopy structure over the Sheppard Avenue East staircase at the station.

“Until May 2021” (meaning as late as until May 31), GO is closing the staircase and the north sidewalk on Sheppard East between the signalized intersection at the entrance of the Agincourt GO Station and the rail line. The south sidewalk is open at all times. Once construction is complete, the staircase and the sidewalk will be re-opened to pedestrians.


When construction ends, you’ll benefit from:

  • a new station building that will be LEED- (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified;
  • a new passenger pick-up and drop-off area (or “Kiss and Ride”);
  • a new second track and platform;
  • a renovated original platform;
  • two new pedestrian tunnels with elevators;
  • canopies and integrated shelters on the platforms to protect you from the elements;
  • a better connection to Sheppard Avenue East at the south end of the platforms; and
  • more landscaping.

Metrolinx and GO plan to accommodate more passengers and increase service along the Stouffville line, as part of their GO Expansion Program (formerly “regional express rail”).
