TTC repairing tracks on Coxwell Avenue, starting March 8

Starting Monday, March 8, TTC track crews are repairing the concrete and rails for the streetcar right of way

  • on Coxwell Avenue between just north of [lower] Gerrard Street East / Eastwood Road and Dundas Street East.

Crews work only in the track area to:

  • break and remove }old concrete to expose the rail;
  • replace the old rail with a new piece of rail; and
  • place asphalt.

Starting 2 a.m. March 8, crews are on-site to set up the work zone. The work zone restricts traffic to the curb lanes. It may also block motorists from turning left onto or from Coxwell.

The project requires the crew to break concrete from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day. They also weld and grind the new rail before they finish installing it.

The City of Toronto is temporarily prohibiting parking near the work zone during the project. Sunday, March 7, crews placed “Emergency No Parking” signs on Coxwell Avenue. Starting Monday, contractors may relocate vehicles whose drivers have parked on Coxwell to a nearby side street. If they relocate your vehicle and you can’t find it, call 416-808-2222 (Toronto Police Services) and provide the license plate. The operator can advise where you can find it.

The TTC is currently replacing streetcars with buses along the 306 / 506 Carlton route, so the project does not affect streetcar service. Nevertheless, passengers aboard buses along these routes can expect delays near the work zone:

  • 22 Coxwell;
  • 306 Carlton overnight;
  • 322 Coxwell overnight; and
  • 506 Carlton.

Track replacement on Coxwell and the resulting TTC delays continue until March 13 (5 a.m.).
