A brick sewer, which dates from 1873, has collapsed, creating a large sinkhole about 7.5 metres (25 feet) deep and about seven metres (20 feet) in circumference

  • at the intersection of College Street with St. George Street and Beverley Street.

The City of Toronto is closing

  • Beverley Street between College and Cecil Streets,
  • College Street between Huron and McCaul Streets and
  • St. George Street north of College Street,

while crews repair the roadway. (During the project, crews will also temporarily remove the TTC tracks.)

Starting Thursday, March 25, the TTC is detouring streetcars along these routes, during the repairs:

  • 306 Carlton overnight; and
  • 506 Carlton.

Shuttle buses replace the cars east of Gerrard Street East / Broadview Avenue, but also detour around the sinkhole along Dundas Streets West and East.

Note that the TTC has replaced streetcars with buses east of Broadview since January 3 due to several other construction projects beyond that street.

(Updated — Friday, May 14, 7 p.m.) (Updated — Tuesday, May 18, 3:32 p.m.) Sinkhole repairs at College / St. George / Beverley continue until further notice until May 19 until May 26.
