TTC revises routes and services, March 28

Update — Friday, September 2, 2022, 5:22 p.m.: Construction on Cummer Avenue has ended and buses resume their regular route Sunday, September 4.

Update — Monday, August 30, 8:11 a.m.: Construction on Cummer Avenue and the resulting TTC detour continue until further notice.

The TTC is again revising its routes and services, Sunday, March 28.

This time, the changes result from three types of events.

Construction

Upcoming construction projects require the TTC to revamp service along several routes:

42 Cummer;
301L Queen / Long Branch overnight shuttle bus;
304C King overnight shuttle bus;
304G King overnight shuttle bus;
304Q King overnight shuttle bus;
501L Queen / Long Branch shuttle bus;
501P Queen / Park Lawn shuttle bus;
504C King shuttle bus;
504G King shuttle bus; and
504Q King shuttle bus.

Amazon Fulfillment Centre

The TTC is revising the paths for two routes to serve passengers travelling to and from the new distribution centre on Passmore Avenue east of Tapscott Road (near Steeles Avenue East and Markham Road):

53B Steeles East - starting January 11; and
102B Markham Rd - starting March 29.

McNicoll Garage

The TTC opens its ninth bus garage, McNicoll, at 225 Milliken Boulevard this Monday, March 28. The new garage is home to buses operating along these routes:

10 Van Horne;
17 Birchmount;
39 Finch East;
42 Cummer;
43 Kennedy;
51 Leslie;
53 Steeles East;
68 Warden;
115 Silver Hills;
122 Graydon Hall;
129 McCowan North;
167 Pharmacy North;
939 Finch East express; and
953 Steeles East express.

Opening the new garage has little apparent* effect on service to passengers, although some buses entering or leaving service start or end their trips at different points along routes than previously.

Since the new garage opens up extra space in other garages, the TTC is also rearranging how it assigns buses serving particular routes to specific garages. Some buses along other routes operate to and from different garages than previously.

The TTC is reducing service along these routes and lines. Service levels are less frequent than pre-pandemic levels, due to fewer passengers. This includes routes with a high number of office workers and routes serving post-secondary institutions, where the majority of students are not attending in-person classes. The TTC will continue to monitor ridership aboard vehicles along all these routes and lines and will adjust levels through 2021.

40A Junction - Dundas West — The TTC continues to cancel service along the short-turn branch to and from Jane Street Mondays to Fridays. Buses continue to serve the branch Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Buses continue to operate along the 40B branch to and from Kipling Station during all time periods, except overnight.
176 Mimico GO shuttle;
508 Lake Shore.

The TTC continues to suspend service along this route due to Metrolinx construction of the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line:

Southbound buses along the 504G route start their trips in the terminal at Dundas West Station, then proceed:

The TTC is diverting buses along the 53B branch of the route to directly serve the Amazon Fulfillment Centre on Passmore Avenue.

Starting Monday, January 11, buses drop off or pick up passengers at a new TTC stop

at the Amazon Fulfillment Centre on Passmore Avenue.

The TTC is also making another change to service along the route.

Starting Monday, April 5, construction on the project to replace the streetcar tracks and improve the streetscape at the intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue further restricts traffic through the area.

That day, the TTC revises the path for shuttle buses operating through the intersection. Eastbound buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at their usual stops

on Queen Street West at Triller, Beaty, Jameson and Dunn Avenues, across from Brock Avenue and at Dufferin Street.

The TTC is temporarily suspending all transit service to these eastbound stops.

Westbound buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at their usual stops

on Queen Street West beyond Dufferin Street and at Brock, O’Hara, Lansdowne, Sourauren, Triller and Roncesvalles Avenues.

TTC buses along another route continue to serve passengers at some of these stops.

Queen West at Dufferin, Brock, Lansdowne, Sorauren and Triller: 304Q King overnight shuttle bus and 504Q King shuttle bus.

The TTC is temporarily suspending transit service to the westbound stop on Queen West at Roncesvalles.

Decreasing the frequency of service along routes and lines

17 Birchmount

The TTC is decreasing the frequency of service early Monday-to-Friday evenings during the transition from afternoon-rush-hour to evening schedules. Because the buses now operate to and from McNicoll Garage, the TTC starts evening-service levels sooner because buses “deadhead” (operate without passengers to McNicoll Avenue, instead of completing a southbound trip before returning to Birchmount Garage.

Starting Monday, March 29, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

every 13 minutes, instead of every 9 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 7 until 8 p.m.

The TTC is also making another change to service along the route.

42 Cummer

During upcoming water-main construction on Cummer Avenue between Leslie Street and Bayview Avenue, the TTC will implement a major detour for westbound buses along the route. To accommodate the longer path during the construction project and maintain reliable service along the route, the TTC’s decreasing the frequency of service along the route every day.

Starting Sunday, March 28, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

every 27 minutes, instead of every 24 minutes, Sundays and holidays before about 8 a.m.;

every 20 minutes, instead of every 16 minutes, from about 8 a.m. until noon;

every 24 minutes, instead of every 20 minutes, from about 7 until 10 p.m.; and

every 27 minutes, instead of every 24 minutes, after about 10 p.m.

Starting Monday, March 29, buses serve passengers at stops:

every 12 minutes, instead of every 11 minutes, Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours;

every 14 minutes, instead of every 13 minutes 15 seconds, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.;

every 16 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, during afternoon rush hours;

every 15 minutes, instead of every 14½ minutes, from about 7 until 10 p.m.; and

every 24 minutes, instead of every 22 minutes, after about 10 p.m.

Starting Saturday, April 3, buses serve passengers:

every 20 minutes, instead of every 17 minutes, Saturdays from about 8 a.m. until noon;

every 14 minutes, instead of every 13 minutes, from about noon until 7 p.m.;

every 18 minutes, instead of every 14 minutes, from about 7 until 10 p.m.; and

every 27 minutes, instead of every 24 minutes, after about 10 p.m.

The TTC is also making other changes to service along the route.

43 Kennedy

The TTC is decreasing the frequency of service early Monday-to-Friday evenings during the transition from afternoon-rush-hour to evening schedules. Because the buses now operate to and from Arrow Road Garage, the TTC starts off-peak-service levels sooner because buses “deadhead” (operate without passengers)) to Finch Avenue West, instead of completing a southbound trip before returning to Queensway Garage.

Starting Monday, March 29, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

every 10 minutes, instead of every 8 minutes, Mondays to Fridays from about 7 until 8 p.m.

The TTC is also adjusting the schedules for buses along the route and making another change to service along the route.

every 8 to 10 minutes, instead of every 3 to 5 minutes, from about 9 until 10 a.m.; and

every 8 to 10 minutes, instead of every 3 to 5 minutes, from about 7 until 8 p.m.

Northbound buses serve passengers at stops:

every 8 to 10 minutes, instead of every 3 to 5 minutes, from about 2:30 until 3 p.m.

The TTC is also making other changes to service along the routes.
