Broadview Avenue water-main construction: TTC detours, starting May 9



Monday, May 10, City of Toronto contractors start a project to replace the water main and the City-owned portion of substandard water services

  • on Broadview Avenue between Danforth Avenue and Gerrard Street East.

During phase 1 of the project, two construction crews proceed from:

  • Danforth and Broadview working southward; and
  • Gerrard and Broadview working northward.

Crews are:

  • digging trenches and replacing the water main;
  • disinfecting and testing the new water main; and
  • connecting water services to the new water main.

At least one lane in each direction is available for vehicles and bicycles on Broadview Avenue. The City may temporarily prohibit on-street parking near work zones, asconstruction progresses. Crews also maintain pedestrian access along Broadview Avenue throughout construction.

Starting Monday, May 9, the TTC is detouring streetcars along these routes to accommodate the project:

  • 304 King overnight;
  • 504 King; and
  • 505 Dundas.

Shuttle buses replace the cars between Broadview Station and King Street East / Parliament Street.

Water-main construction on Broadview Avenue and the resulting TTC detours continue until further notice.


The ongoing construction project at the intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue also continues to affect service along the route. Due to that project, the TTC continues to operate more shuttle buses to replace streetcar service through that intersection:

  • 304G / 504G King shuttle-bus route between Dundas West Station and Roncesvalles Carhouse; and
  • 504Q King shuttle-bus route between Queen Street West / Triller Avenue and Princes’ Gate Loop.

505 Dundas

Starting Sunday, May 9, westbound cars start their trips on Gerrard Street East (eastbound) at Broadview Avenue, then proceed:

along their regular route southward along Broadview.

Westbound cars skip their regular stops

  • in Broadview Station terminal,
  • on Erindale Avenue at Broadview Avenue,
  • on Broadview Avenue at Danforth Avenue, across from Wolfrey Avenue, Montcrest Boulevard and Withrow and Langley Avenues, at Jack Layton Way and Gerrard Street East.

Instead westbound cars pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • eastbound on Gerrard Street East at Broadview Avenue.

Shuttle buses replace the cars north of Gerrard Street East / Broadview Avenue.

Eastbound cars operate along their regular route to Dundas Street East and Parliament Street, then detour:

northward along Parliament; and then
eastward along Gerrard Street East to Broadview Avenue,
ending their trips.

Eastbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on Dundas Street East at Sackville, Sumach, River and Munro Streets and Broadview Avenue and
  • on Broadview Avenue across from Mountstephen Street and at Gerrard Street East, Langley and Withrow Avenues, Montcrest Boulevard and Wolfrey Avenue and
  • in Broadview Station terminal.

Instead, eastbound cars drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Parliament Street at Oak Street and Gerrard Street East and
  • on Gerrard Street East at Sackville, Sumach, River and Blackburn Streets and Broadview Avenue.

Shuttle buses replace the cars north of Gerrard Street East / Broadview Avenue. Eastbound streetcar passengers may transfer to eastbound buses on Gerrard Street East at Broadview Avenue.

504 King

Starting Sunday, May 9, westbound cars start their trips in Distillery Loop, then proceed:

northward along Cherry and Sumach Streets;
westward along King Streets East and West;
southward along Dufferin Street;
westward along Springhurst Avenue;
southward along Fort Rouille Street; and then
eastward into Dufferin Gate Loop,
ending their trips.

Westbound cars serve passengers at stops

  • in Distillery Loop,
  • on Cherry Street at Front Street East,
  • on King Street East at Sackville, Parliament, Ontario and Sherbourne Streets and beyond Jarvis and Church Streets;
  • on King Street West beyond Yonge and Bay Streets, University Avenue, John and Peter Streets and Spadina Avenue, at Portland, Bathurst, Tecumseth and Niagara Streets, Strachan Avenue and Shaw and Sudbury Streets, across from Jefferson Avenue and at Joe Shuster Way and Dufferin Street,
  • on Dufferin Street across from Liberty Street and at Springhurst Avenue and
  • in Dufferin Gate Loop.

Eastbound streetcars start their trips in Dufferin Gate Loop, then proceed:

northward along Dufferin Street;
eastward along King Streets West and East;
southward along Sumach and Cherry Streets; and then
eastward into Distillery Loop,
ending their trips.

Eastbound cars drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • in Dufferin Gate Loop,
  • on Dufferin Street at Liberty Street and King Street West,
  • on King Street West across from Joe Shuster Way, at Atlantic Avenue, Douro and Shaw Streets, Strachan Avenue and Niagara and Tecumseth Streets and beyond Bathurst and Portland Streets, Spadina Avenue, Blue Jays Way, John Street, University Avenue and Bay Street,
  • on King Street East beyond Yonge, Church and Jarvis Streets, at Sherbourne Street, across from Ontario Street and at Parliament, Sackville and Sumach Streets,
  • on Cherry Street at Front Street East and
  • in Distillery Loop.

Eastbound streetcar passengers may transfer to eastbound shuttle buses along the 504D route at stops on King Street East between Parliament and Sumach Streets.

Starting Sunday, May 9, buses replace streetcars service along the 504 King route between Broadview Station and King Street East / Parliament Street.

Westbound buses start their trips in Broadview Station terminal, then proceed:

westward along Erindale Avenue;

northward along Berkeley Street to King East,
ending their trips.

Westbound passengers travelling toward Dundas West Station must walk to Roncesvalles Avenue beyond Marion Avenue to board a shuttle bus along the 304G King overnight shuttle-bus route to continue their trips.

Eastbound buses start their trips on Queen Street West at Triller Avenue, then proceed:

southward along Triller;
eastward along King Streets West and East and Queen Street East;
northward along Broadview Avenue; and then
eastward into Broadview Station terminal,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • on Queen Street West [westbound] at Triller Avenue,
  • on King Street West across from Wilson Park Road, at Dowling, Jameson, Dunn and Spencer Avenues, Dufferin Street, Douro and Shaw Streets, Strachan Avenue, Niagara and Tecumseth Streets, beyond Bathurst and Portland Streets, Spadina Avenue, Blue Jays Way, John Street, University Avenue and Bay Street,
  • on King Street East beyond Yonge, Church and Jarvis Streets, at Sherbourne Street, across from Ontario Street, at Parliament, Sackville, Sumach and Lower River Streets,
  • on Queen Street East across from Carroll Street and at Broadview Avenue,
