MacNab North / Mulberry Hamilton construction: HSR detour, starting May 27

Tuesday, May 25, the City of Hamilton started construction as part of its Central Neighbourhood upgrades project in downtown Hamilton. The project will continue “until December 2021, meaning as late as until December 31.

During this project, the City is:

  • replacing the water main and sewers;
  • rebuilding roads and sidewalks;
  • resurfacing roads; and
  • improving intersections.

Starting Thursday, May 27, the City is closing

  • the intersection of MacNab Street North with Mulberry Street

during the first phase of this project.

Construction crews maintain local access on MacNab North and Mulberry, but the work zone blocks through traffic.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses along this route, while the streets are closed:

  • James Street North between Cannon and Barton Streets;
  • Bay Street North between Cannon and Barton Streets West; and
  • Barton Street West between Bay and James Streets North.

The James Street North phase of the project may significantly impact HSR services.
