TTC rehabilitating roof at Broadview (electrical) substation, starting the week of June 14

Starting the week of Monday, June 14, TTC crews are repairing the roof at the main entrance building for Broadview electrical substation (beside the Broadview Station bus terminal). These work activities don’t impact the main entrance into / exit from Broadview (subway) Station or TTC service.

First, work crews create a safe work zone and start installing protective scaffolding around the entrance of the substation. Then, they remove and install new roof flashings along the roof wall, remove old roof material and apply new roof material.

The TTC’s roof supplier delivers material from 5 until 7 a.m. multiple times during the course of the project. TTC crews will store some supplies on the roof.

Crews are using the traditional method of applying liquid asphalt to repair the roof. Instead, they’re using a three-ply roofing system that they apply with heat. This method produces less odour. They work daily from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. and, occasionally, until 8 p.m., when necessary.

Roof rehabilitation at Broadview substation continues “until the end of October”, meaning as late as until October 31.
