Update — Wednesday, September 28, 12:20 p.m.: Construction on Simcoe Street continues to affect GO service until further notice.
Starting Wednesday, August 4, City of Peterborough contractors start a project to repave and maintain
- Simcoe Street between George and Aylmer Streets North.
The construction affects GO Transit and Peterborough Transit buses operating close to the Downtown Peterborough Terminal.
GO buses along the 88 Peterborough / Oshawa route in both directions skip their regular stop on Simcoe Street beside the terminal. Instead, buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop on Aylmer Street North just beyond Simcoe.
From August 4 until Monday, August 9, all PT buses access the terminal from the east side - the side of the terminal that’s closest to George Street.
Buses along the 6 Sherbrooke route, which normally serve passengers curbside on Simcoe Street next to the terminal, temporarily operate into the terminal beside the platform for buses along the 10 Technology Drive route. Signs are in place to direct you to the temporary stop.
During the construction, the City expects to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction, when possible, and maintain local access to stores and properties by shifting traffic lanes as the construction progresses. Expect periods when the work zone restricts traffic to a single lane - one-way traffic - with signed detour routes.
During the project, crews are:
- grinding and paving the road surface;
- installing or adjusting storm-sewer grates; and
- replacing curbs.
The City says, “The work is scheduled to be done by late September 2020”, meaning construction on Simcoe Street continues to affect GO and PT service as late as until September 30.
