McMaster University construction: HSR detours, September 3, 4, 5



Starting 8 a.m. Friday, September 3, McMaster University is closing

  • University Avenue between Sterling Street and Forsythe Avenue South

to accommodate a project to upgrade the McMaster University Medical Centre emergency-power systems.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses along these routes, while the street is closed:

Construction on University Avenue and the resulting HSR detours continue until September 5.


5A / 5C Delaware

From 8 a.m. Friday, September 3 until 9 p.m. Sunday, September 5, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Forsythe Avenue South and University Avenue, then detour:

east- and northward along Forsythe South; and then
northward along Forsythe North to Sterling Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Sterling.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on University Avenue beyond Forsythe Avenue South and beside the Life Sciences Building and
  • on Sterling Street beyond University Avenue and at Forsythe Avenue North.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Forsythe Avenue South across from University Avenue and
  • on Forsythe Avenue North at Sterling Street.

Westbound buses reverse the eastbound detour routing.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Sterling Street at University Avenue and
  • on University Avenue across from the Life Sciences Building and at Forsythe Avenue South.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Sterling Street at Forsythe Avenue North; and
  • on Forsythe Avenue South at University Avenue.
