Metrolinx continues upgrading GO Transit’s Lakeshore West line, as part of the GO Expansion Program.
During the weekend of Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12, trains operate hourly, while Metrolinx contractors upgrade the rail infrastructure. Specifically, crews are working on the tracks between the Gardiner Expressway and Dufferin Street. The construction project does not affect trains to and from Niagara Falls.
From 11 p.m. Friday, September 10 until the end of service Sunday, September 12, trains at Exhibition GO will only serve passengers at platform 4 (next to the station building).
Passengers travelling westbound and connecting between trains along the Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West lines may have to wait in Union Station 33 to 48 minutes longer than usually because GO has adjusted the schedule to accommodate this work.
Eastbound trains:
- Trains leave West Harbour GO Station every hour from 5:13 a.m. until the end of service.
- Trains from Niagara Falls operate with regular schedules.
Westbound trains:
- Trains leave Union every hour from 6:45 a.m. until the end of service.
- Trains to Niagara Falls operate with regular schedules.
Bus connections:
- Passengers aboard buses along the 18 Lakeshore West route will experience longer wait times of 38 to 45 minutes at Aldershot GO Station, when connecting to or from trains.
- The temporary train-schedule changes do not affect passengers aboard buses along the 12 Niagara Falls / Burlington and 15 Brantford / Burlington routes.
Metrolinx says, “These service changes allow us to carry out important construction work to improve rail infrastructure. Additional construction will take place later this fall on the Lakeshore West line. This construction work is part of important upgrades to aged rail infrastructure. These upgrades will improve train speeds, service life and reliability, allowing us to provide better service to you in the future.”
Metrolinx and GO plan to accommodate more passengers and increase service along the Lakeshore West line, as part of their GO Expansion Program (formerly “regional express rail”).
