Queen East construction: Buses replace streetcars east of Greenwood, starting October 10

Overnight nightly from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. and from Monday, October 18 until Saturday, October 23, the TTC expands the work zone to west of Greenwood Avenue. It’s revising the paths for buses and streetcars during those overnight periods.

Starting Sunday, October 10, the TTC is operating buses, instead of streetcars, on Queen Street East east of Greenwood Avenue along this route:

The TTC has not announced a reason for the service change, but according to transit blogger Steve Munro, it’s upgrading the overhead [streetcar] wiring on the street. The project is part of TTC’s system-wide program of upgrading the overhead wiring to allow full pantograph operation for its new low-floor Toronto Flexity streetcars.

The transit agency is operating buses along this new, temporary bus route between Neville Park Loop and Lakeshore Garage on Commissioners Street:

  • 501N Queen - Neville Park.

Streetcars continue to detour along King Streets East and West west of Parliament Street due to ongoing construction projects:

Streetcars along route 501 only operate as far westward as King West and Spadina Avenue.

Due to the multiple construction projects in the Queen / Queensway / Lake Shore corridor, the TTC is also revising overnight service.

It’s replacing streetcars with buses along this route:

  • 301 Queen overnight.

It’s also extending the path so that the buses operate between Long Branch and Neville Park loops, avoiding the need for passengers to transfer.

And, it’s cancelling this temporary shuttle-bus route:

  • 301L Queen - Long Branch overnight.
