Starting Sunday, November 14, the City of Toronto is reopening:
- The Queensway / Queen Street West to through traffic at the intersection with Roncesvalles Avenue / King Street West; and
- Roncesvalles Avenue between south of Grafton Avenue and The Queensway / Queen Street West.
It’s also closing:
- King Street West between The Queensway / Queen Street West and Wilson Park Road
to most traffic to accommodate the next phase of the ongoing City / TTC project to replace the streetcar tracks and improve the street infrastructure
- at the intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue.
Stage 1 of the project started Sunday, January 3 and the TTC has replaced streetcars with buses along the 301 / 501 Queen and 304 / 504A King routes since then. It revised the detours for the bus routes, starting Monday, April 5. Starting November 14, the TTC further revises service.

The City is partially closing the intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue “until early winter 2022”, meaning as late as until January 31, 2022, as part of co-ordinated efforts by the City and TTC to upgrade various infrastructure in the area.
According to the City’s website, “The transition to Stage 2 construction was initially planned for late July 2021. Due to unforeseen utility conflicts, construction was paused to ensure safety and resolve the conflicts. The City has worked with the project consultant, the contractor, utility providers, TTC and other stakeholders to resolve all conflicts, and the contractor is able to proceed with the remaining work.”
Crews continue or finish:
- replacing TTC poles, installing new lighting, upgrading the streetcar tracks and rebuilding the roadway, curb, streetcar platforms and sidewalks on King Street West between The Queensway / Queen Street West and about 100 metres further southeast.
- replacing TTC poles, installing new lighting,upgrading the streetcar tracks and rebuilding the roadway, curb, streetcar platforms and sidewalks on The Queensway between Parkside Drive and Roncesvalles Avenue / King Street West;
- replacing TTC wiring the intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue and on King Street West;
- improving the streetscape work at Beaty Boulevard Park (southwest corner of the intersection); and
- rehabilitating the top side of the bridge carrying The Queensway over Parkside Drive.
Crews mainly work Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. (and, occasionally, evenings and weekends, when necessary).
For pedestrians:
You can generally continue to use most sidewalks in the work zone.
You can cross the Queen West / King West / Queensway / Roncesvalles intersection at:
- North-south crosswalk at Queen Street West on the east side of the intersection;
- East-west crosswalk at Roncesvalles Avenue on the north side of the intersection.
You can’t cross at:
- North-south crosswalk at The Queensway on the west side of the intersection;
- East-west crosswalk at King Street West on the south side of the intersection - the City is installing a temporary crosswalk further southeast on King West.
You can also use:
- North-south crosswalk on The Queensway at the west side of Glendale Avenue,
The City says it will provide safe, alternate pedestrian access whenever the work zone blocks a sidewalk.
It also warns pedestrians that it may close the footbridge between Beaty Boulevard Parkette and the Martin Goodman Trail for two to three days during work in that area.
For cyclists:
- You can share the travel lanes in each direction on The Queensway between Parkside and Roncesvalles / King West.
- Due to the King West road closure, you must dismount and use available sidewalks to travel in both directions along King.
- You can also dismount and use available sidewalks and pedestrian crossings.
The City warns pedestrians that it may close the footbridge between Beaty Boulevard Parkette and the Martin Goodman Trail for two to three days during work in that area.
For motorists:
- The City has closed King Street West between The Queensway / Queen Street West and Wilson Park Road during stage 2. All lanes are closed west of Triller Avenue. Just one lane is available for eastbound traffic between Triller and Wilson Park.
- You can’t turn right from southbound Triller Avenue onto westbound King West.
- You can turn left from southbound Triller onto eastbound King.
- Just one lane is available for traffic in each direction on The Queensway between Parkside Drive and Roncesvalles Avenue / King.
- Northbound traffic can’t access Sunnyside Avenue from Queensway.
- Southbound traffic on Sunnyside can turn left or right onto Queensway.
- You can access Glendale Avenue from Queensway. An advance green signal helps eastbound traffic on Queensway to turn left onto northbound Glendale.
504C King shuttle buses
Starting Sunday, November 14, the TTC resumes service along the temporary shuttle-bus route, replacing two temporary routes:
- the 504G King shuttle-bus route - between Dundas West Station and Roncesvalles Carhouse; and
- the 504Q King shuttle-bus route - between Queen Street West / Triller Avenue and Princes’ Gate Loop.
Eastbound route 504C buses start their trips in Dundas West Station terminal, then proceed:
eastward along Edna Avenue;
southward along Dundas Street West and Roncesvalles Avenue;
eastward along Queen Street West;
southward along Triller Avenue;
southeast- and eastward along King Street West;
southward along Strachan Avenue;
westward along Manitoba Drive;
southward along Canada Boulevard; and then
eastward into Princes’ Gate Loop,

Sunday, November 14 is the last day that the TTC operates buses along the route. Instead, starting Monday, November 15, it extends the path for buses operating along the 304 King overnight route. Route 304 buses operate between Dundas Street West / Bloor Street West and Broadview Avenue / Danforth Avenue.
