Durham Region Transit is revising its services and routes, it says, to adjust to ridership trends.
It’s changing services in two phases this month. Phase 1 starts Monday, January 3.
A second phase starts Monday, January 10.
DRT is revising service along these routes: 302 Baldwin-Brock; 310 Winchester; Route 392; 905 Thickson - Reach; 917 Bayly - Consumers.
Specifically, it’s: cancelling a route; increasing service along routes; decreasing service along a route; increasing the frequency of service along a route; decreasing the frequency of service along a route; revising the path for buses along a route; and adjusting the schedules for buses along routes.
Cancelling a route
310 Winchester
Thursday, December 23 was the last day that DRT operated buses along the route. (It operated buses with Saturday schedules Mondays to Fridays during the holidays.)
Starting Monday, January 3, it extends the path for buses along the 302 Baldwin - Brock route to replace route 310 service.
Westbound route 310 buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at stops
- on Ceremonial Drive on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and Ontario Tech University,
- on Simcoe Street North across from Founders Gate, at Conlin Road East, Northern Dancer Drive and Britannia Road East,
- on Winchester Road East [Whitby] at Cachet Boulevard and
- on Thickson Road North beyond Winchester Road East.
DRT buses along other routes continue to serve passengers at these stops.
- Ceremonial: 302B Brock - Baldwin; Route 420; 901 / 901B PULSE Simcoe; 905A / 905B Thickson - Reach; Route 920 / 920B.
- Simcoe at Founders, Conlin East and Northern Dancer: 302B Brock - Baldwin; Route 420; 905A / 905B Thickson - Reach.
- Simcoe at Britannia East: 302B Brock - Baldwin; 905A / 905B Thickson - Reach.
- Winchester: 302B Brock - Baldwin.
- Thickson: 302A / 302B Brock - Baldwin.
Eastbound buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at stops
- on Thickson Road North at Blackfriar Avenue,
- on Carnwith Drive East at Croxall Boulevard and across from Downey Drive,
- on Baldwin Street North beyond Carnwith Drive West, at North Street, Colston Avenue and Cassels Road West,
- on Winchester Road East [Whitby] beyond Chelmsford Drive, across from Simcoe Street, beyond St. Thomas and Anderson Streets, beyond Thickson Road North and across from Cachet Boulevard,
- on Simcoe Street North beyond Windfield Farms Drive West and Britannia Road West, at Conlin Road West and beyond Founders Gate and
- on Ceremonial Drive on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and Ontario Tech University.
DRT buses along other routes continue to serve passengers at some of these stops.
- Thickson North; Carnwith East: 302A / 302B Baldwin - Brock.
- Winchester at Chelmsford, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Anderson: 302A / 302B Baldwin - Brock.
- Winchester at Thickson and Cachet: 302B Baldwin - Brock.

- Simcoe at Britannia West, Conlin West and Founders: 302B Brock - Baldwin; Route 420; 905A / 905B Thickson - Reach.
- Ceremonial: 302B Brock - Baldwin; Route 420; 901 / 901B PULSE Simcoe; 905A / 905B Thickson - Reach; Route 920 / 920B.
DRT no longer provides any transit service to the former southbound route 310 stops on Baldwin North.

Increasing service along routes
302 Baldwin - Brock
Starting Monday, January 3, DRT splits the service into two branches, extending the path so that some buses operate to and from the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and Ontario Tech University. Buses along both branches in both directions enter to Baldwin / Highway 407 Park and Ride carpool lot to drop off or pick up passengers.
Southbound buses along the 302B branch serve passengers at new stops (for this route):
- on Ceremonial Drive on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and Ontario Tech University,
- on Simcoe Street North across from Founders Gate, at Conlin Road East, Northern Dancer Drive and Britannia Road East,
- on Winchester Road East [Whitby] at Cachet Boulevard,
- on Thickson Road North beyond Winchester Road East and at Blackfriar Avenue,
- on Carnwith Drive East at Croxall Boulevard and across from Downey Drive and
- on Carnwith Drive West west of Baldwin Street North and
- in the Baldwin / Highway 407 Park and Ride carpool lot.
Northbound buses serve passengers at new stops (for this route):
- on Baldwin Street North at Cassels Road East,
- on Vipond Road beyond Montgomery Avenue, Danbury Court and Darius Harns Drive,
- on Carnwith Drive West beyond Darius Harns Drive, at Bayern Drive and Montgomery Avenue and beyond Way Street and Leithridge Crescent,
- on Carnwith Drive East beyond Baldwin Street North and at Watford Street and Thickson Road North,
- on Thickson Road North at Blackfriar Avenue,
- on Winchester Road East [Whitby] beyond Thickson Road North and across from Cachet Boulevard,
- on Simcoe Street North beyond Windfield Farms Drive West and Britannia Road West, at Conlin Road West and beyond Founders Gate and
- on Ceremonial Drive on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and Ontario Tech University.
DRT is also decreasing service and decreasing the frequency of service along part of the route.

Route 392
Starting Monday, January 3, DRT operates buses on more trips along the route between Whitby Shores and Whitby GO Station Mondays to Fridays during afternoon rush hours.

Decreasing service along a route
302 Baldwin - Brock
Starting Monday, January 3, DRT splits the service into two branches, extending the path so that some buses operate to and from the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and Ontario Tech University. Buses along both branches in both directions enter to Baldwin / Highway 407 Park and Ride carpool lot to drop off or pick up passengers.
Resulting from this change, DRT is decreasing service to these northbound stops, eliminating all service Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.:
- on Winchester Road East [Whitby] beyond Chelmsford Drive, across from Simcoe Street and beyond St. Thomas and Anderson Streets.
DRT is also decreasing the frequency of service along part of the route.

Increasing the frequency of service along a route
917B Bayly - Consumers
Holiday service ends and regular service resumes. Starting Monday, January 3, buses again operate along the 917B branch of the route between Oshawa Centre terminal and Whitby GO Station Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.
Along that section of the route and during those times, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops:
- every 15 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes.

Revising the path for buses along a route
302 Baldwin - Brock
Starting Monday, January 3, DRT splits the service into two branches, extending the path so that some buses operate to and from the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and Ontario Tech University. Buses along both branches in both directions enter to Baldwin / Highway 407 Park and Ride carpool lot to drop off or pick up passengers.
302A branch
Most buses operating along the 302A branch of the route start or end their trips on Carnwith Drive West west of Baldwin Street North in Brooklin, then proceed along the usual path for buses along route 302 to the Baldwin / Highway 407 Park and Ride (south of Highway 407). After stopping in the carpool lot, the buses return to Baldwin Street South to resume their usual route southward along Baldwin.
Alternate buses operate along the 302A branch Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. All buses operate along the 302A branch Mondays to Fridays after about 7 p.m. and all day Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Note that some early Monday-to-Friday morning buses start their trips further southeast in Brooklin, on Thickson Road north of Winchester Road East.
302B branch
Southbound buses start their trips at the west end of Ceremonial Drive on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and Ontario Tech University, then proceed:
eastward along Ceremonial;
northward along Simcoe Street North;
westward along Winchester Road West [Oshawa] and Winchester Road East [Whitby];
northward along Thickson Road; and then
westward along Carnwith Roads East and West to just beyond Baldwin Street North.The buses then proceed along the usual path for buses along route 302 to the Baldwin / Highway 407 Park and Ride (south of Highway 407). After stopping in the carpool lot, the buses return to Baldwin Street South to resume their usual route southward along Baldwin.
Southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at new stops

They continue along the regular 302 path to Baldwin Street and Winchester Road, then proceed:
northward along Baldwin North;
westward along Campbell Street and Vipond Road;
northward along Ashburn Road;
eastward along Carnwith Drives West and East;
southward along Thickson Road North;
eastward along Winchester Road East [Whitby] and Winchester Road West [Oshawa];
southward along Simcoe Street North; and then
eastward along Ceremonial Drive to the west end of the street,
ending their trips.Northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at new stops
