YRT revises routes and services, January 2



Update — Wednesday, January 19, 12:38 a.m. — Although the Government of Ontario announced that secondary schools would reopen Monday, January 17, a major winter storm kept schools closed for two days. Schools reopen and high-school special services resume Wednesday, January 19.


York Region Transit is making minor changes to its routes and services, Sunday, January 2.


Due to fewer riders during the pandemic, YRT continues to suspend service along these routes:

  • Viva green;
  • Viva pink;
  • 10 Woodbridge;
  • 21 Vellore local;
  • 22 King City;
  • 31 Aurora North;
  • 42 Berczy;
  • 45 Mingay;
  • 51 Keswick local;
  • 58 Mount Albert;
  • 84 Oak Ridges;
  • 201 Markham GO shuttle;
  • 202 Unionville GO shuttle;
  • 203 Milliken GO shuttle;
  • 204 Berczy GO shuttle;
  • 222 Aurora - Newmarket GO shuttle;
  • 240 Mill Pond GO shuttle;
  • 241 Beverly Acres GO shuttle; and
  • 243 Redstone GO shuttle.

It’s also suspending parts of these routes:

  • 13 Islington (no service to and from Kleinburg.)

Introducing new routes


436 Cardinal Carter high-school special via Parker
  • The Government of Ontario has postponed the start of in-person training in secondary schools to help prevent the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. When in-person classes resume, YRT will operate buses along this new route Monday-to-Friday school days.

The morning bus leaves King Road west of Yonge Street at 7:57 a.m. It proceeds:

westward along King;
northward along Parker Avenue;
westward along Humberland Drive;
northward along Bathurst Street; and then
eastward along Bloomington Road West to Academy Drive (across from Cardinal Carter Catholic High School),
ending its trip at 8:10 a.m.

The morning bus picks up passengers at stops

  • on King Road beyond Yonge Street and at Schomberg Road and Parker Avenue,
  • on Parker Avenue at Penny Place and Maple Grove, Elm Grove and Greyfriars Avenues,
  • on Humberland Drive at Red Cardinal Trail, beyond Woodhaven Crescent [east] and at Woodhaven Crescent [west] and Bathurst Street,
  • on Bathurst Street north of Humberland Drive and at Bloomfield Road West and

The afternoon bus starts its trip eastbound on Bloomfield Road West west of Academy Drive at 2:45 p.m., then proceeds:

eastward along Bloomfield West;
southward along Yonge Street;
westward along King Road;
northward along Parker Avenue;
westward along Humberland Drive; and then
northward along Bathurst Street to Bloomington Road West,
ending its trip at 3:04 p.m.

The afternoon bus picks up passengers at a stop on Bloomington West at Academy, then drops off passengers at stops

  • on Bloomfield Road West at Yonge Street,
  • on Yonge Street at Coon’s Road, Blackforest Drive and Elm Grove, Maple Grove and Aubrey Avenues and King Road,

Increasing service along routes


32 Aurora South

YRT is operating a bus on a new northbound trip along the route, it says, to improve service to passengers travelling from St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School.

Starting Monday, January 3, the bus leaves Wellington Street East west of Industrial Parkway South at 2:35 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. It ends the trip on Bayview Avenue north of Stone Road [north] at 2:38 p.m.

YRT is also adjusting the schedule for a bus along the route.

54 Bayview

Starting Monday, January 3, YRT reinstates early Monday-to-Friday service along the route. The first southbound bus starts its trip in East Gwillimbury GO Station at 5:32 a.m. The first northbound bus starts on Victoria Street south of Wellington Street East at 5:43 a.m.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops on the route every 25 minutes early Monday-to-Friday mornings. They also arrive at stops on Wellington Street East near St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School in time for the start of classes.

Since YRT is again operating early Monday-to-Friday service along the route, it’s cancelling the 435 St. Maximilian Kolbe high-school special route.

417 Bill Hogarth high-school special

YRT is operating a bus on a new trip along the route Monday-to-Friday school-day mornings.

Since Monday, September 13, the bus has left Hoover Park Drive west of Sandiford Drive at 8:07 a.m. It ends this trip on Bur Oak Avenue south of Donald Sim Avenue (near Bill Hogarth Secondary School) at 9:01 a.m.

YRT is also adjusting the schedules for buses along the route.

426 Dr. G. W. Williams high-school special via Hollidge

YRT is operating buses on new trips along the route Monday-to-Friday school days.

Since Monday, September 20, a second morning bus has left Hollidge Boulevard west of Bayview Avenue at 7:39 a.m. It ends this trip on Dunning Avenue across from Cameron Avenue (beside Dr. G. W. Williams Secondary School) at 8:05 a.m.

An extra afternoon bus leaves Dunning across from Cameron (beside the school) at 2:45 p.m. It ends this trip on Hollidge west of John West Way at 3:09 p.m.

90 Leslie

Starting Monday, January 3, YRT resumes the northbound bus that leaves Don Mills Road north of Steeles Avenue East at 2:39 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. The bus ends in the Richmond Green Secondary School loop at 3:03 p.m.

YRT says it operates this extra bus to relieve overcrowding at St. Robert Catholic Secondary School.

It’s also adjusting the schedules for buses along the route.

4 Major Mackenzie

YRT is operating a bus on a new westbound trip along the route “to meet [passenger] demand.”

Starting Monday, January 3, the bus leaves Major Mackenzie Drive West east of Trench Street at 2:55 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. It ends the trip in Vaughan Mills Terminal at 3:25 p.m.

57 Mulock

YRT is operating buses on new Monday-to-Friday trips in both directions along the route, it says, to improve service to passengers who are connecting at Mulock Drive and Bayview Avenue with buses along the 54 Bayview route. Buses on the new trips also improve service to passengers who are travelling to or from Sir William Mulock Secondary School.

Starting Monday, January 3, the new eastbound bus leaves Newmarket Terminal at 7:28 a.m. It ends the trip in 404 Town Centre terminal at 7:58 a.m. The new westbound bus starts in 404 Town Centre terminal at 2:17 p.m. It ends in Newmarket Terminal at 2:42 p.m.

418 Pierre Elliot Trudeau high-school special

Since Monday, September 13, YRT has operated a bus on a new trip along the route Monday-to-Friday school-day afternoons, it says, “to meet [passenger] demand.”

The bus leaves Bur Oak Avenue across from McCaul Street (beside the school) at 2:36 p.m. Monday-to-Friday school days. It ends on Hazelton Avenue north of Major Mackenzie Drive East at 3 p.m.

Since Tuesday, September 14, it has operated a bus on a new trip school-day mornings. The bus leaves Victoria Square Boulevard south of Stony Hill Boulevard at 7:41 a.m. It ends on Bur Oak west of Fairlawn Avenue (across from the school) at 8:02 a.m.

12 Pine Valley

YRT is operating a bus on a new southbound trip along the route to improve connections from buses along the 20 Jane route for passengers travelling from Maple High School.

Starting Monday, November 1, the bus leaves Vaughan Mills Terminal at 3:15 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. It ends the trip in Steeles / Islington loop at 3:49 p.m.

New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31, 2021 was the last day that YRT operated the westbound bus that usually started its trip in Vaughan Mills Terminal at 2:42 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

To replace the trip, YRT is introducing the new 471 Stephen Lewis high-school special via Langstaff Secondary route.

32 Aurora South

Starting Monday, January 3, the southbound bus that usually leaves Bayview Avenue north of Stone Road [north] at 2:33 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves, instead, at 2:38 p.m. It drops off or picks up passengers at stops along the route as much as five minutes later than usually. It ends its trip at 3:11 p.m.

The bus that usually leaves Hoover Park Drive west of Sandiford Drive at 8:15 a.m. will leave, instead, at 8:06 a.m. It picks up passengers at stops along the route as much as nine minutes earlier than usually. It ends its trip on Bur Oak Avenue south of Donald Sim Avenue (near Bill Hogarth Secondary School) at 9 a.m.

One of the two buses that usually leaves Bur Oak south of Donald Sim at 3:40 p.m. will leave, instead, at 3:41 p.m. It will drop off passengers at stops along the route one minute later than usually. It will end on Hoover Park Drive east of Sandiford at 4:30 p.m.

56 Gorham - Eagle

Starting Monday, January 3, YRT adjusts the schedule for buses along the route Monday-to-Friday mornings. Buses leave terminals ten minutes earlier than usually.

77 Highway 7

YRT is adjusting the Sunday-and-holiday and Monday-to-Friday schedules for the last eastbound buses along the route. By adjusting the schedules, YRT says it’s improving service to passengers connecting with the buses at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre vivastation with the last northbound trains along the TTC’s Line 1 Yonge - University subway.

Starting Sunday, January 2, the bus that usually leaves Vaughan Valley Boulevard north of Highway 7 at 2:14 a.m. Mondays (or the days after statutory holidays) starts, instead, at 2:20 a.m. It drops off or picks up passengers at stops along the route as much as six minutes later than usually. It ends its trip in Finch GO Bus Terminal at 3:10 a.m.

The bus the usually leaves Vaughan Valley north of 7 at 2:19 a.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays leaves, instead, at 2:29 a.m. It serves passengers at stops along the route as much as ten minutes later than usually. It ends its trip in Finch terminal at 3:14 a.m.

8 Kennedy

Starting Monday, January 3, the southbound bus that usually leaves Prospectors Drive south of Major Mackenzie Drive East at 2:24 p.m. Mondays to Fridays starts, instead, at 2:29 p.m. The bus drops off or picks up passengers at stops along the route as much as five minutes later than usually. It ends the trip on Kennedy Road north of Steeles Avenue East at 2:55 p.m.

By adjusting the schedule, YRT says it’s improving service for passengers travelling from Pierre Elliot Trudeau High School.

82 Valleymede

Starting Monday, January 3, the northbound bus that usually leaves St. Robert Catholic High School at 2:50 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves, instead, at 2:45 p.m. It drops off or picks up passengers at stops along the route as much as five minutes earlier than usually. It ends its trip on Redstone Road across from Alvarado Avenue at 3:24 p.m.

When in-class learning resumes, St. Robert’s staff will dismiss classes five minutes earlier than usually.

760 Vaughan Mills / Wonderland

YRT continues to operate buses along the route between Vaughan Mills terminal and Finch GO Bus Terminal Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, starting Sunday, January 2.

The schedules match the opening hours of Vaughan Mills (mall):

  • Saturdays, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.; and
  • Sundays and holidays from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Since Vaughan Mills isn’t open Good Friday, Friday, April 15 and Easter, Sunday, April 17, YRT won’t operate buses along the route those days.

Making another change to service along a route


Viva purple

Since the City of Markham recently renamed streets in the area of York University’s future Markham campus, YRT is also renaming vivastations on those streets.

Starting Sunday, January 2, it redesignates the former Post Road vivastation as Andre de Grasse Street vivastation.

It’s also redesignating the former Rivas Road vivastation as University Boulevard vivastation.
