"Freedom Rally" truck convoy blocks streets in East Hamilton: HSR detouring buses, January 27



The City of Hamilton expects that the “Freedom Rally” of truckers protesting vaccine requirements for their industry will temporarily block an east-end area of the city today, Thursday, January 27, from 9 until 11 a.m.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses along these routes, while the streets are closed:

  • 2 Barton;
  • 4 Bayfront; and
  • 44 Rymal.

2 Barton

From 9 until 11 a.m. Thursday, January 27, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Barton Street East and Lake Avenue North, then detour:

southward along Lake North;
westward along Highway 8 / Queenston Road; and then
northward along Parkdale Avenue North to Melvin Avenue,
resuming their regular route northward along Parkdale North.

Inbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Barton Street East at Lake Avenue North, beside #2553 Barton East, beyond Covington Street, at Centennial Parkway North, beside #2434 Barton East, at Kenora Avenue, beyond Nash Road North and Osborne Street and at Waverley Street,
  • on Woodward Avenue at Melvin Avenue and
  • on Melvin Avenue across from Maclaren and Blair Avenues and Adair Avenue North and at Parkdale Avenue North.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route to Melvin Avenue and Parkdale Avenue North, then detour:

southward along Parkdale Avenues North and South;
eastward along Queenston Road / Highway 8; and then
northward along Lake Avenue North to Barton Street East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Barton East.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Melvin Avenue at Adair Avenue North and Bernard and Airdrie Avenues,
  • on Woodward Avenue beyond Melvin Avenue,
  • on Barton Street East at Waverley Street and beyond Talbot Street, at Nash Road North, Kenora Avenue, Centennial Parkway North, across from Covington Street and #2553 Barton East and at Lake Avenue North.
4 Bayfront

From 9 until 11 a.m. Thursday, January 27, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Nash Road South and Queenston Road, then detour:

eastward along Queenston;
northward along Parkdale Avenues South and North; and then
eastward along Barton Street East to Woodward Avenue,
resuming their regular route northward along Woodward.

Inbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Nash Road North across from Nugent Drive [south], at Kentley Drive, across from Nugent Drive [north] and at Barton Street East and
  • on Barton Street East beyond Nash Road North and Osborne Avenue and at Waverley Street.

Outbound buses reverse the inbound detour routing.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Barton Street East at Waverley Street and beyond Talbot Street and at Nash Road North and
  • on Nash Road North at Nugent Drive [north], Kentley Drive, Nugent Drive [south] and Queenston Road.
44 Rymal

From 9 until 11 a.m. Thursday, January 27, all buses start and end their trips in Eastgate Terminal.

West- and northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Centennial Parkway North beyond Queenston Road, at Vineyard Road and Delawana Drive, beyond Violet Drive, at Barton Street East, across from Arrowsmith Road, across from Goderich Road and
  • at Walmart and
  • at the future Confederation GO Station.

South- and westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • at the future Confederation GO Station
  • at Walmart and
  • on Centennial Parkway North at Arrowsmith Road, Barton Street East, Eastgate Court and Delawana Drive and across from Vineyard Road.

Inbound buses operate toward downtown.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown.
