Greenwood Station "Easier Access" construction: Phase 2 starts February 7; TTC detouring buses

The TTC is continuing its “Easier Access” program to install elevators in its rapid-transit stations, making the subway system accessible for everyone. The program supports the government of Ontario’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The provincial legislation commits the TTC to achieving a barrier-free transit system by 2025.

Starting Monday, February 7, TTC contractors start Phase 2 of the project to install elevators at Greenwood Station.

During the first part of phase 2, City of Toronto Water contractors are replacing a 100-year-old sewer at the northwest corner of Strathmore Boulevard and Linnsmore Cresent.

From Monday, February 7 until Monday, March 14, the City is closing

  • Linnsmore Crescent, all lanes, just north of Strathmore Boulevard and
  • Strathmore Boulevard, all lanes, just west of Linnsmore Crescent

to accommodate the work zone for both the elevator and sewer projects.

The work zone also blocks the west sidewalk on Linnsmore north of Strathmore Boulevard, however, the east sidewalk remains available.

The TTC is detouring buses along this route, during this part of phase 2:

Starting Monday, March 14, the City reopens Strathmore to traffic and TTC buses resume their regular route.

The work zone continues to block traffic lanes and the west sidewalk on Linnsmore north of Strathmore.

Phase 2 construction continues “for approximately 3 months”, meaning as late as until May 7.

Crews mostly work Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., as necessary. However, they may also work overnight and weekends during the course of the project to complete the work as quickly as possible.

Expect noise, dust and vibration. The TTC will implement “mitigation measures”, such as monitoring vibration, wet-cutting concrete and installing mesh fencing to reduce dust.

Construction trucks, equipment and workers will be present in the general area.
