James Mountain Road Hamilton construction: HSR detours, March 26



From 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, March 26, the City of Hamilton is closing

  • James Mountain Road

to all traffic, while crews maintain trees beside the roadway.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses along these routes, while the street is closed:

  • 21 Upper Kenilworth;
  • 33 Sanatorium; and
  • 35 College.

From 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, March 26, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Fennell Avenue East at West Fifth Street, then detour:

eastward along Fennell West and East;
northward along Upper Wellington Street;
north-, east-, north- and westward along the Jolley Cut;
westward along Arkeldun Avenue to St. Josephs Drive,
resuming their regular route northward along John Street North.

Inbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on West Fifth Street beyond Fennell Avenue West, at Brantdale Avenue and beyond Gateview Drive and
  • on St. Joseph’s Drive beyond James Street South.

Instead, inbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Fennell Avenue West at West Second Street and Upper James Street,
  • on Fennell Avenue East beside Mountain Plaza and at Warren Avenue and East 8th Street,
  • on Upper Wellington Street at Brucedale and Queensdale Avenues East, Mountville Avenue and Concession Street and
  • on Arkledun Avenue across from Kingsway Drive.

Outbound buses operate along their regular route to James Street South and St. Josephs Drive, then detour:

eastward along St. Josephs and Arkledun Avenue;
east-, south-, west- and northward along the Jolley Cut;
southward along Upper Wellington Street; and then
westward along Fennell Avenues East and West to West Fifth Street,
resuming their regular route southward along West Fifth.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on James Street South at Markland Street and
  • on West Fifth Street across from Brantdale Avenue and at Fennell Avenue West.

Instead, outbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on St. Josephs Drive at Mountwood Avenue,
  • on Arkledun Avenue at Kingsway Drive,
  • on Upper Wellington Street beyond Concession Street, at Inverness Avenue East, across from Thayer Street and beyond Brucedale Avenue East,
  • on Fennell Avenue East at East Eighth Street, beyond East Fifth Street and at Upper James Street and
  • on Fennell Avenue West at West Second Street.
