Since fall 2021, York Region contractors have been rehabilitating a 1.5-kilometre section of the York Durham Sewage System that extends under
- 16th Avenue (Regional Road 73) between west of Williamson Road to west of Mingay Avenue
in the City of Markham.
The project includes:
- installing a temporary sewage bypass pipe;
- rehabilitating two access shafts;
- relining the trunk sewer; and
- other work.
Starting Monday, April 4, the work zone blocks York Region Transit bus access to westbound stop #2997 on 16th at Heritage Corners Lane, affecting passengers aboard buses along these routes:
- 16 16th Avenue; and
- 410 Markham high-school special via Carlton.
Passengers may board buses at the previous stop, #2996, on 16th at Markham Road or the next stop, #2998, on 16th at Mingay Avenue.
(Updated — Tuesday, May 17, 4:39 p.m.) (Updated — Friday, July 29, 9:46 a.m.) Construction on 16th Avenue continues to block bus access to stop #2997 on 16th at Heritage Corners “until June 2023”, meaning as late as until June 30, 2023 until July 31 until October 31.
Buses along the 16 16th Avenue route also detour overnight due to construction of another part of the same project east of Markham Road. During to the overnight detour, from 9 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. overnight Sunday-to-Thursday evenings and Monday-to-Friday mornings, the previous stop is on Markham Road at 16th until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10.
