Metrolinx and its contractors have started a long-term project project to transform Maple GO Station, as part of the GO Expansion Program.

Monday, April 11, contractors start getting ready to upgrade the station. GO Transit is closing the overflow parking lot near 4 Hill Street, so the contractors can store construction equipment. GO says, “There is still ample parking” in the main lot.

This phase of construction will not change how you access the station.

Since August 2021 , crews have been working near the cul-de-sac on Eagle Rock Way. During this project, they’re building early works and infrastructure for double-tracking the line and improving the station in the future. Activities include:

• building earthworks;
• installing fencing;
• installing a retaining wall;
• building a new station stairs building; and
• installing a pedestrian tunnel to connect to the future second track.

GO intends to expand the bus loop and build a structure to house the ventilation system as part of a nearby transit-oriented community development by York Major Holdings.

Crews mostly work Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Expect traffic conditions in the parking lot to change. GO is closing some parking spaces on the east side of the north and south lots, nearest to Eagle Rock Way, during construction. It’s also building a new temporary pedestrian path so you can safely access the station from Eagle Rock Way.

Construction to expand the bus loop and upgrade the station continues “until summer 2022”, meaning as late as until September 30, 2022.

Metrolinx and GO plan to accommodate more passengers and increase service along the Barrie line, as part of their GO Expansion Program (formerly “regional express rail”).
