The annual Sporting Life 10K road race takes place this Sunday, May 8, significantly disrupting TTC services in Toronto that morning.

Another, smaller event in Bowmanville also affects services this weekend.

Sporting Life 10K

The City of Toronto is closing

  • Yonge Street between Eglinton and Davisville Avenues

from about 4 until 11 a.m. Sunday, while organizers set up the starting line for the event, and form participants into “waves” or groups.

It’s also closing all lanes of

  • Yonge Street between Davisville Avenue and Richmond Street

from 7 until 11 a.m. Sunday.

During the race, also from 7 until 11 a.m., the City is closing all of parts of

  • Richmond Street West, all lanes, between Yonge and York Streets,
  • York Street, all lanes, between Richmond Street West and Bremner Boulevard,
  • Bremner Boulevard, all lanes, between York and Rees Streets,
  • Rees Street, all lanes, between Bremner Boulevard and Lake Shore Boulevard West,
  • Lake Shore Boulevard West, westbound lanes, between Rees and Bathurst Streets
  • Strachan Avenue, all lanes, between Lake Shore Boulevard West and Fleet Street and
  • **Fort York Boulevard, all lanes, between Lake Shore Boulevard West and Fleet Street.

from about 7 until 11 a.m.

Toronto Police Service officers are closing the streets to allow participants to pass along the route. After all participants have cleared the roadways, the police will reopen the streets.

The City is also closing a street near Exhibition Place from about 4 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday so that organizers can set up the finish-line area:

  • Lake Shore Boulevard West, all lanes, between Bathurst Street and British Columbia Road.

Race participants help raise funds to support Camp Oochiegeas, a camp for children with cancer.

The event severely impacts TTC service, especially buses operating into and out of Eglinton and Davisville Stations and all east-west buses and streetcars downwtown.

Eastbound cars start their trips on Queen Street East [westbound] at Parliament Street, then proceed:

northward along Parliament;
eastward along Dundas Street East; and then
southward Broadview Avenue to Queen East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queen.
