Since Monday, April 11,, TTC contractors have been working on a project to upgrade the terminal at Dundas West Station. During the project, crews are:
- rebuilding the streetcar tracks in the terminal;
- modifying the platform for streetcar passengers; and
- re-aligning the overhead streetcar wiring in some areas to improve how the TTC’s low-floor Flexity Outlook streetcars operate through the terminal.
Construction on the project takes place in three phases:
- Phase one: replacing the tracks in Dundas West Station terminal and expanding the platform for streetcars along the 505 Dundas route (Monday, April 11 until Sunday, May 8);
- Phase two: replacing the tracks on Dundas Street West, including “special track work” (curves and switches), between Edna Avenue and the terminal entrance (Monday, May 9 until Saturday, June 18); and
- Phase three: replacing the tracks on Edna Avenue (starting Sunday, June 19).
During phase two, the City of Toronto is closing traffic lanes
- on Dundas Street West at Edna Avenue
to accommodate the project. The work zone restricts traffic to just one northbound lane.
The City is also closing all traffic lanes
- on Edna Avenue west of Dundas West.
Also during the same time period as phase two, TTC crews are:
- permanently repairing the streetcar tracks on Dundas West south of Bloor Street West; and
- modifying the eastbound streetcar stop on Dundas east of Roncesvalles Avenue.
To accommodate these two projects, the City is also closing:
- Dundas Street West south of Bloor Street West.
The work zone restricts traffic to just one northbound lane.
Starting Sunday, May 8, the TTC modifies the detour routings for buses and streetcars that would usually operate through Dundas West Station terminal:
- 40 Junction - Dundas West: Buses operate to and from Dufferin and Lansdowne stations.
- 168 Symington: Buses operate to and from Dufferin and Lansdowne stations.
- 304 King overnight: buses operate to and from High Park Station terminal;

The buses operate due the ongoing City of Toronto / TTC project to replace the streetcar tracks and improve the street infrastructure at the intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue.
Subway trains along Line 2 Bloor - Danforth continue to operate through and drop off or pick up passengers in Dundas West Station.
Crews typically work on major construction activities, including breaking concrete, excavating and removing rail from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. If necessary, crews may work as late as 11 p.m.
While crews move rail into position, install the new rail and grind and weld the new rail, they may work late evenings, overnight and weekends. The TTC says, “After-hours work is required to preserve the integrity of the rail and support daytime construction.”
Crews work on the overhead wiring before and after they remove the old track and install the new track.
While Dundas Street West is closed north of Bloor Street West:
- Crews maintain access to The Crossways’ driveway.
- The City is restricting parking on Dundas West and temporarily closing the taxi stand.
- The work zone restricts access to the Zipcar parking lot beside Dundas West Station from Dundas West. Alternate access to and from the lot is along a laneway on Dorval Road, one block west of Dundas off Bloor West.
While Edna Avenue is closed west of Dundas:
- Crews maintain sidewalk access.
- Crews maintain access to the laneway off Edna just east of Dorval.
While Dundas is closed south of Bloor:
- Crews maintain local access only to #2323 Dundas.
As part of track renewal projects, crews store equipment and materials close to the work sites. They’ll deliver rail panels on flatbed trailers. They’ll temporarily store some flatbeds on Dundas and on Edna for a short time before they install them.
