TTC revises routes and services, May 8

The TTC is revising its routes and services starting Sunday, May 8, impacting various routes. The transit agency is increasing frequency, improving reliability, reintroducing seasonal service or introducing new seasonal service along various routes or matching capacity to demand.

In many cases, it’s restoring levels to the service that it provided before and during October 2021. It explains that “This year’s approved operating budget allows the TTC to restore service to 100 per cent of pre-pandemic levels. This will occur over the coming months in line with ridership increases.”

Due to fewer riders boarding buses resulting from social distancing and lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, the TTC continues to suspend service along these express routes:

  • 141 Downtown / Mt Pleasant express;
  • 142 Downtown / Avenue Rd express;
  • 143 Downtown / Beach express;
  • 144 Downtown / Don Valley express; and
  • 145 Downtown / Humber Bay express.

The TTC also continues to suspend service along these routes due to the pandemic:

  • 176 Mimico GO shuttle;
  • 508 Lake Shore.

The TTC continues to suspend service along this route due to Metrolinx construction of the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line:

  • 103 Mt Pleasant North.

As a pilot project, the TTC continues to combine route 503 service with the former 502 Downtowner route, as it has since September 9, 2019.

Transit agencies often interline two or more routes with a common terminal to save resources — human resources (drivers) and physical resources (vehicles). For example, after a southbound bus along the 73B branch of the 73 Royal York route arrives in Royal York Station bus terminal, it continues a trip southbound along the 76B branch of the 76 Royal York South route. After completing a round trip along the 76B branch, the bus returns to Royal York Station and then continues northward along the 73B branch.
