Toronto Water construction on King Street West: TTC detours, starting May 16



The TTC has announced that it is detouring buses due to (City of) “Toronto Water construction” from 9 p.m. Monday, May 16 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 and continuing overnight nightly.

The transit agency hasn’t specified where construction is occurring, but it’s likely on King Street West between Atlantic Avenue and Shaw Street.

The TTC is detouring buses along these routes, while the work zone blocks the street:

Toronto Water construction on Strachan Avenue and the resulting TTC detours continue overnight nightly until May 22 (4 a.m.).

The TTC continues to replace streetcars along the 304 King overnight and 504A King routes with buses. The buses operate due the ongoing City of Toronto / TTC project to replace the streetcar tracks and improve the street infrastructure at the intersection of Queen Street West / King Street West / The Queensway / Roncesvalles Avenue.


304 / 504C King buses

From 9 p.m. Monday, May 16 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 and continuing overnight nightly until 4 a.m. Sunday, May 22, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to King Street West and Atlantic Avenue, then detour:

southward along Atlantic; and then
eastward along East Liberty and Liberty Streets to Strachan Avenue,
resuming their regular route southward along Strachan.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on King Street West at Douro and Shaw Streets and Strachan Avenue and
  • on Strachan Avenue at Canniff and East Liberty Streets.

Westbound buses reverse the eastbound detour routing.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Strachan Avenue beyond Wellington Street West and
  • on King Street West at Shaw and Sudbury Streets.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on East Liberty Street beyond Pirandello Street and at Lynn Williams Street,
  • on Liberty Street at Atlantic Avenue and
  • on Atlantic Avenue at King Street West.

From 9 p.m. Monday, May 16 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 and continuing overnight nightly until 4 a.m. Sunday, May 22, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Strachan Avenue and East Liberty Street, then detour:

southward along Strachan; and then
westward along Manitoba Drive and the access road into Exhibition Loop,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on East Liberty Street beyond Pirandello Street and at Lynn Williams Street,
  • on Liberty Street at Atlantic Avenue and
  • on Atlantic Avenue at King Street West.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops:

  • on Strachan Avenue at Manitoba Drive and
  • in Exhibition Loop.

Northbound buses start their trips in Exhibition Loop, then proceed:

eastward along the access road and Manitoba Drive;
northward along Strachan Avenue; and then
westward along King Street West to Shaw Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Shaw.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Atlantic Avenue at King Street West and
  • on King Street West at Douro Street.

Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • in Exhibition Loop,
  • on Strachan Avenue beyond Fleet Street and Wellington Street West and
  • on King Street West at Shaw Street.
