Yonge Street road construction: TTC detours, starting May 23



Update — Saturday, May 28, 9:23 p.m.: Emergency road repairs on Yonge Street and the resulting TTC detours continue until June 6.


Starting 7 p.m. Victoria Day, Monday, May 23, the City of Toronto is closing:

  • Yonge Street between Front Street and Lake Shore Boulevard

during emergency road repairs.

According to a City news release, “The road closure is expected to last for at least three days as crews work to locate and address a substantial flow of ground water under the intersection of Yonge Street and The Esplanade.”

The TTC is detouring buses along these routes, while the street is closed:

  • 97 Yonge;
  • 121 Esplanade - River; and
  • 320 Yonge overnight.

121 Esplanade - River

(Updated — Saturday, May 28, 9:23 p.m.) From 7 p.m. Victoria Day, Monday, May 23 until Saturday, May 28 Monday, June 6, westbound buses operate along their regular route to The Esplanade and Church Street, then detour:

northward along Church; and then
westward along Wellington Street East to Yonge Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Wellington West.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on The Esplanade beyond Church Street and at Yonge Street and
  • on Yonge Street at Front Street East.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route.

97B Yonge
320 Yonge overnight

Southbound buses operate along their regular route.

(Updated — Saturday, May 28, 9:23 p.m.) From 7 p.m. Victoria Day, Monday, May 23 until Saturday, May 28 Monday, June 6, northbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge Street and Lake Shore Boulevard, then detour:

westward along Lake Shore West;
northward along Bay Street; and then
eastward along Front Street West to Yonge,
resuming their regular route northward along Yonge.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Yonge Street at Front Street East.

Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Bay Street beyond Lake Shore Boulevard West and at Front Street West and
  • on Front Street West beyond Bay Street.
