Since Tuesday, May 24, a contractor has been preparing for future construction at the station by drilling in the parking lot and in an area north of the tracks. Starting Thursday, June 2 the contractor continues drilling in different areas of the lot.
Crews are drilling vertical boreholes to complete a geotechnical investigation to inform future work to improve the station. The work zone blocks one section of the lot at a time, affecting about six to eight parking spaces per day.
Crews use a truck-mounted drill rig to perform the investigation works. Passengers and nearby residents and business people may experience noise and vibration from construction vehicles and equipment. Crews work Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
This early phase of the project continues until “early June”, meaning construction continues as late as until June 15.

During the project to upgrade Long Branch GO Station, Metrolinx intends to build:
- a new west entrance building;
- a new west tunnel with elevators and stairs to the platforms;
- new east pedestrian access (either a bridge or tunnel) with elevators and stairs to the platform;
- a new east entrance building with washrooms and waiting area;
- better access from Edgeware Drive to the north platform (lighting, wayfinding signs and closed-circuit television [CCTV] cameras);
- a better parking lot, including pedestrian walkways, a passenger drop-off and pick-up area (or “Kiss and Ride), bike lanes and bike shelters;
- a new secure bike storage room;
- better platforms with snow-melting system and heated shelters; and
- better tracks that will enable future electrification of trains.
Metrolinx and GO plan to accommodate more passengers and increase service along the Lakeshore West line, as part of their GO Expansion Program (formerly “regional express rail”).
