Finch West LRT - Humber College: Crews widening roadway, installing catch basins, starting September 6

Metrolinx contractors continue building the Finch West light rail transit line between Humber College and Finch West subway station in the Etobicoke and North York areas of Toronto.


Starting Tuesday, September 6, crews are widening the roadway and installing catch basins

  • at the intersection of Humber College Boulevard with Highway 27,

near the site of the future Humber College Station.

The crews work mainly on the east side of Highway 27 north and south of Humber College Boulevard Mondays to Fridays from about 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Occasionally, the may also work overnight or weekends to keep the project on schedule and reduce the timeline for disrupting the nearby community.

Road-widening and catch-basin installation near the future Humber College Station and the resulting BT, MiWay and TTC service changes continue “for five (5) weeks, approximately”, meaning as late as until October 16.


For transit passengers:

  • Brampton Transit passengers aboard buses along these routes can expect delays:
  • 11 / 11A Steeles; and
  • 50 / 50A Gore Road.
  • MiWay passengers aboard buses along this route can expect delays:
  • 22 Finch.
  • TTC passengers aboard buses along this route can expect delays:
  • 96A / 96B Wilson;
  • 927B / 927C Highway 27 express; and
  • 996 Wilson express.

For pedestrians:

  • The work zone blocks the sidewalk on the west side of Highway 27 north of Humber College Boulevard.
  • The work zone may also periodically block other sidewalks and crosswalks near the intersection. You may have to detour around the work zone, when possible. For safety reasons, you may have walk on the sidewalk on the other side of the street.

For motorists:

  • One lane in each direction is available for east-west traffic along Humber College Boulevard on both sides of Highway 27.
  • Left-turn lanes are also available for traffic on Humber College at the intersection.
  • One lane in each direction is available for north-south traffic on Highway 27 south of Humber College.
  • Two lanes in each direction are available for north-south traffic on Highway 27 north of Humber College.
  • Left-turn lanes are also available for traffic on Highway 27 at the intersection.

For residents and business people:

  • Expect heavy trucks and equipment, dust, noise and vibration resulting from this work.
  • Expect noise from excavators, bobcats, vacuum trucks and other construction equipment.
