The Hamilton Street Railway is ending its summer services and revising some of its routes, starting Sunday, September 4
Increasing service
- Starting Saturday, September 10, the HSR is introducing new all-day Saturday service along the 20 A-Line express route between Pier 8 and the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. Buses operate Saturdays from 5:25 a.m. until 12:14 a.m.
- The HSR is also increasing Monday-to-Friday rush-hour frequency to every 10 minutes.
- You can also travel later Mondays to Fridays, too, with late=evening service continuing every 30 minutes until 12:44 a.m.
Revising routes
- Starting Sunday, September 4, the HSR is extending the path for all buses along the 22 Upper Ottawa route to the Red Hill Business Park on Glover Road all day every day. You don’t have to transfer to Trans-Cab to travel to and from Glover during most times of the week. The HSR is also cancelling regular service to and from Anchor Road.
- Starting Sunday, September 4, the HSR is extending the path for buses along the 43 Stone Church route to the new community off Green Mountain Road West.
Resuming seasonal services
- Tuesday, September 4 is the first “official” day since June that the HSR provides extra service for passengers travelling to and from McMaster University; buses operate Mondays to Fridays and Saturdays:
51 University.
(Note, however, that the HSR operated temporary service along the route during Welcome Week at “Mac” from Monday, August 29 until Saturday, September 3 — a “University Special” operating with a Saturday frequency.)
Continuing seasonal services
- Services continues along this route Sundays and holidays until November 13:
- 9 Rock Gardens.
Ending seasonal services
- Less frequent Monday-to-Friday summer service ends; more frequent regular service resumes along these routes, starting Tuesday, September 6:

- Labour Day is also the last day this year that the HSR diverts this route to serve passengers travelling to and from Wild Waterworks in Confederation Park:

Increasing service along routes
20 A-Line express
Starting Tuesday, September 6, the HSR operates later service along the route Monday-to-Friday evenings. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every 30 minutes from about 8 p.m. until 1 a.m.
Starting Saturday, September 10, it introduces new Saturday service along the route. Buses serve passengers every 30 minutes from about 5 a.m. until 1 a.m.
The HSR is also increasing the frequency of service and making another change to service along the route.

43 Stone Church
The HSR is extending the path so that buses operate to and from residential areas on and near Green Mountain Road West.
Starting Sunday, September 4, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at new stops
- on Mud Street West beyond Trafalgar Drive,
- on Green Mountain Road West beyond Upper Centennial Parkway and Morrissey Drive and
- on First Road West beside Heritage Green Sports Park and Heritage Green Dog Park and at Mud Street West.
The HSR is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

51 University
Since more passengers travel to and from McMaster University during fall and winter, the HSR is resuming service along the route.
Regular Monday-to-Friday service resumes Tuesday, September 6. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops:
- every 7 minutes during rush hours;
- every 10 minutes from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.; and
- every 15 minutes after about 7 p.m.
Regular Saturday service resumes Saturday, September 10. Buses serve passengers at stops:
- every 30 minutes from about 11:30 a.m. Saturdays until 2:30 a.m. Sundays.

22 Upper Ottawa
Starting Sunday, September 4, the HSR operates to and from the Red Hill Business Park on Glover Road all day every day, instead of just Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.
Inbound passengers at these stops can board or exit buses all day every day:
- on Glover Road beside Maple Leaf Foods and
- on Twenty Road East at Nebo Road.
Outbound passengers at these stops can board or exit route 22 buses all day every day:
- on Rymal Road East beside #1280 Rymal East and at Dartnell Road,
- on Dartnell Road beside the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA),
- on Twenty Road East beyond Dartnell Road and
- on Glover Road beside Maple Leaf Foods.
Since the HSR is increasing the hours of service along this part of route 22, it’s also decreasing service to the area.

Decreasing service along routes
56 Centennial
Since Wild Waterworks closes during fall and winter, Labour Day, Monday, September 5 is the last day this year that buses along the route operate into Confederation Park.
And, Friday, September 2 is the last day buses operate along the route Mondays to Fridays (except for statutory holidays). Starting Sunday, September 4, buses operate along the route Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
The HSR is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

22 Upper Ottawa
Sunday, August 28 was the last day that the HSR extended the path so that buses operated to and from Anchor Road Sundays and holidays before about 7 p.m. Friday, September 2 is the last day that it extends the path to and from Anchor Monday-to-Friday evenings after about 7 p.m. Saturday, September 3 is the last day that it extends the path Saturday evenings.
Outbound buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at stops
- on Nebo Road [northbound] at Stone Church Road East,
- on Stone Church Road East [eastbound] beside #1320 Stone Church East, and at Dartnall and Anchor roads,
- on Anchor Road across from Bigwin Road,
- on Harlow Road at Pritchard Road,
- on Pritchard Road at Highland Road West,
- on Stone Church Road East [westbound] beyond Pritchard Road, at Arbour Road, across from Dartnall Road, beside # Stone Church Road East and across from #1320 Stone Church East and Nebo Road and
- on Nebo Road [southbound] at Hempstead Drive.
HSR buses along the 43 Stone Church route continue to serve passengers at the stops on Stone Church.
The HSR no longer provides any transit service to the stops on Nebo, Anchor, Harlow and Pritchard roads.
The HSR is also increasing service and increasing the frequency of service along the route.

Since more passengers are travelling to and from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, the HSR is increasing the frequency of service Monday-to-Friday daytime.

- every 10 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, Mondays to Fridays during rush hours; and
- every 10 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes, from about 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 7 until 8 p.m.

Starting Sunday, September 4, all buses operate to and from Glover Road all day every day. All inbound buses start their trips on Glover Road beside Maple Leaf Foods, then proceed:
southward along Glover;
eastward through an off-street loop south of Maple Leaf;
northward along Glover;
westward along Twenty Road East; and then
northward along Nebo Road to Kilbride Road,
resuming their usual route westward along Kilbride.All day every day, outbound buses operate along their usual route to Hempstead Drive at Nebo Road, then proceed:
along their regular route southward along Nebo.
All day, every day, the buses continue along their usual route to Nebo and Rymal Road East, then proceed:
eastward along Rymal East;
southward along Dartnell Road;
eastward along Twenty Road East; and then
southward along Glover Road to Maple Leaf Foods,

Red Hill Business Park Trans-Cab service
Starting Sunday, September 4, the HSR extends the path for buses along the 22 Upper Ottawa route to operate to and from Maple Leaf Foods on Glover Road all day every day.
By extending the path for route 22, the HSR eliminates the necessity for most Trans-Cab service to and from the Red Hill Business Park area.
However, workers at Countrywide Recycling can continue to use Trans-Cab Mondays to Fridays during rush hours to travel to or from the “Countrywide Recycling Only” Trans-Cab transfer point on the northeast corner of Twenty Road East at Nebo Road.

Starting Sunday, September 4, the City of Hamilton renames the HSR’s MacNab Transit Terminal in downtown Hamilton as the Frank A. Cooke Terminal.
The HSR is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.
