Monday, August 15, the TTC started a project to replace the rails and switches at
- the intersection of King Street East with Sumach Street.
Crews have been replacing the east- and westbound trailing switches and several sections of curved rail. Crews mostly work to
- excavate to remove old concrete rail and switches;
- install new rail and switches; and
- place new concrete.
Since Sunday, July 31, the transit agency has been detouring streetcars along these routes to accommodate the construction project:
Buses continue to replace overnight streetcar service, so the TTC is also detouring buses along this route during the construction:
- 304 King overnight.
The TTC originally expected to restore regular streetcar service through the intersection this weekend, likely starting Sunday, September 4. However, it now is announcing that construction will continue until “late September”, meaning construction and the detours likely continue as late as until September 30.
Saturday, September 3 is the last day that the TTC operates buses along shuttle buses to and from the Distillery District, which the TTC says it’s cancelling due to “low ridership”.
