Weekend events affect transit services, September 8, 9, 10, 11



The Toronto International Film Festival in downtown Toronto tops the long list of special events affecting transit services this weekend.

Other street festivals affecting service include Etobicoke’s the Taste of the Kingsway, downtown Hamilton’s Supercrawl and the South Side Shuffle in Mississauga.

Events take place in Aurora, Brampton, the Etobicoke area of Toronto, the Malton area of Mississauga, Markham, Oakville, Oshawa, the Port Credit area of Mississauga and central and downtown Toronto.

Royal York Road is open to through traffic at Bloor Street West, but expect delays due to many pedestrians crossing Royal York from 6 until 10 p.m. Friday, September 9, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, September 10 and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, September 11.

The City of Hamilton is closing

The TTC continues to replace streetcars with buses along parts of the route during ongoing construction at the intersection of Carlton Street with Church Street.

Eastbound cars start their trips on Parliament Street south of Gerrard Street West, then proceed:

Buses continue to replace streetcars along parts of the 506 Carlton route during ongoing construction at the intersection of Carlton Street with Church Street.

Rolling Loud

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Ontario Place hosts the Toronto edition of “the largest hip-hop festival in the world”.

GO Transit is adjusting service to help festival goers travel from the festival.

09 Lakeshore East trains

Friday, September 9, GO is cancelling the eastbound train that usually starts in Union Station at 12:05 a.m. and the westbound train that usually starts in Oshawa GO Station at 10:45 p.m., it says, “to make better use of our resources where we need them most.”

Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11, GO is also adjusting the schedules of some late-evening trains.

01 Lakeshore West trains

Friday, September 9, GO operates an extra westbound train that starts in Union Station at 11:30 p.m. and drops off or picks up passengers in all stations to Burlington GO Station. GO is also adjusting the schedules of some other late-evening trains.

Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, GO operates an extra westbound train that starts in Union Station at 11:22 p.m. and drops off or picks up passengers in all stations to Oakville GO Station. GO is also adjusting the schedules of some other late-evening trains.

Toronto International Film Festival

From 5 a.m. Thursday, September 5 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 12, the City of Toronto is closing:

  • King Street West between Peter Street / Blue Jays Way and University Avenue

to accommodate the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

The TTC is detouring streetcars, while the street is closed.

The City is also closing the street during red-carpet events from 3:30 until 6:15 p.m. and from 7 until 9:30 p.m. Monday, September 12 and Tuesday, September 10.

The TTC is already operating shuttle buses to replace streetcars along both branches of the 504 King route west of University Avenue due to construction elsewhere on the route. From 5 a.m. Thursday, September 8 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 12 and again from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, September 13, the TTC detours the buses around the closed section of King Street East and extends the path further eastward.

Westbound buses start their trips on George Street at Front Street East, then proceed:

westward along Front East;

Transfer at Church to shuttle buses to travel even further westward along the route.

Eastbound cars start their trips in Woodbine Loop, then proceed:

westward along Queen Street East to Kingston Road,
resuming their regular route eastward along Kingston.
