Hurontario LRT - Cooksville: Overnight work and turn restrictions on Hillcrest Avenue, MiWay detour, starting September 29

Metrolinx and its contractors continue construction of the Hurontario light rail transit line in Mississauga and Brampton.


Starting Wednesday, September 29, crews are installing sanitary infrastructure

  • on Hillcrest Avenue at Hurontario Street

near the site of the future Cooksville stop, as part of the LRT construction project.

To reduce the overall length of the impact of the construction, contractors are extending the hours of work, including overnight. At times, crews may work 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Also, the work zone restricts eastbound motorists on Hillcrest from turning onto Hurontario.

The contractors have also scheduled the construction activity in two phases. During the first stage, crews work on the southwest side of the intersection and the work zone restricts left and right turns onto Hurontario. During the second phase, crews work on the northwest side of the intersection and the work zone restrict left turns.

MiWay is detouring buses along this route, while this phase of LRT construction proceeds:

  • 53 Kennedy.

GO Transit passengers aboard buses along this route can expect delays on Hurontario at Hillcrest:

  • 21 Milton / Toronto.

MiWay passengers aboard buses along these routes can also expect delays:

  • 2 Hurontario; and
  • 103 Hurontario express.

Watch for slow-moving vehicles entering and exiting work areas. Residents and business people near the work site can expect to hear noise and vibration from trucks, excavators, backhoes and other construction equipment.

LRT construction on Hillcrest Avenue at Hurontario Street and the resulting GO and MiWay service changes continue until October 29.

From Wednesday, September 28 until Friday, October 29, northbound buses start their trips in Cooksville GO Station bus terminal, as usually, then proceed:

eastward along John Street to Hurontario Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Hurontario.
