Metrolinx contractors continue building the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line between Mount Dennis and Kennedy.
“As early as” Monday, October 3, crews at the site of the future Chaplin Station start installing permanent utilities and restoring sidewalks
- on Eglinton Avenue West, north side, at Chaplin Crescent.
To accommodate this next phase of the project, the City of Toronto is closing to traffic:
- Chaplin Crescent north of Eglinton Avenue West,
except for emergency vehicles.
The TTC is detouring buses in the area.
Permanent utility installation and sidewalk restoration near the future Chaplin Station and the resulting TTC detours continue “for approximately one (1) month”, meaning as late as until November 7.
For transit passengers:
- Starting Sunday, October 1, the TTC is detouring buses along these routes:
- Passengers aboard buses along these routes can also expect delays near the work zone:
- 32A / 32C Eglinton West; and
- 332 Eglinton West overnight.
For pedestrians:
- The work zone blocks the south sidewalk on Eglinton Avenue West between Spadina Road and the east side of the tertiary entrance site (west of Russell Hill Road). Walk on the north side.
- The work zone blocks the north sidewalk on Eglinton West between Gilgorm Road and west of Chaplin Crescent. Instead, you can walk along temporary path on a closed portion of the roadway. Safety barriers protect you from traffic.
- The work zone blocks the east sidewalk on Chaplin south of Spadina. Walk on the west side.
- The work zone blocks the east sidewalk on Chaplin from south of Spadina to Eglinton. Instead, you can walk along temporary path on a closed portion of the roadway. Safety barriers protect you from traffic.
- A temporary crosswalk allows you to cross Chaplin safely from the east to west side south of Spadina.
- The crosswalk on the north side of Eglinton at Chaplin is closed. Cross on the south side.
- The crosswalk on the south side of Eglinton at Chaplin is south of its permanent site.
For motorists:
- Chaplin Crescent is closed to traffic between Spadina Road Eglinton Avenue West.
- The work zone blocks traffic lanes on the south side of Eglinton West between Spadina and Russell Hill Roads.
- The work zone restricts traffic to just one lane in each direction on the north side of Eglinton between Russell Hill and Spadina.
- Crews continue to store construction material in the median on Chaplin north of Spadina.
- Gilgorm Road at Eglinton is closed.
For nearby residents and business people:
- Crews work every day from about 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.
- Expect to hear noise from construction activity, such as excavators and trucks, and see site lighting overnight.
33 Forest Hill
Starting Monday, October 3, southbound buses start their trips on Bathurst Street at Shallmar Boulevard, then proceed:
eastward along Shallmar;
southward along Mayfair Avenue; and then
eastward along Eglinton Avenue West to Spadina Road,
resuming their regular route southward along Spadina.Southbound buses skip their regular stops
- on Eglinton Avenue West [westbound] at Vesta Drive,
- on Roselawn Avenue beyond Bathurst Street and at Chaplin Crescent and
- on Chaplin Crescent across from #340 Chaplin and at Eglinton Avenue West.
Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on Bathurst Street at Shallmar Boulevard and
- on Eglinton Avenue West at Gardiner Road.
Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Eglinton Avenue West and Vesta Drive, then proceed:
westward along Eglinton Avenue; and then
northbound along Bathurst Street to Shallmar Boulevard,
ending their trips.Northbound buses serve passengers at their regular stop at Eglinton West and Vesta, but also drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on Eglinton Avenue West at Old Forest Hill Road and
- on Bathurst Street across from Wembley Road, at Vesta Drive and Shallmar Boulevard.
14 Glencairn
Starting Monday, October 3, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Bathurst Street and Roselawn Avenue / Elm Ridge Drive, then detour:
southward along Bathurst;
eastward along Shallmar Boulevard;
southward along Mayfair Avenue; and then
eastward along Eglinton Avenue West to Chaplin Crescent,
resuming their regular route southeastward along Chaplin.Eastbound buses skip their regular stops
- on Roselawn Avenue beyond Bathurst Street and at Chaplin Crescent and
- on Chaplin Crescent across from #340 Chaplin and at Eglinton Avenue West.
Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop
- on Bathurst Street at Elm Ridge Drive,
- on Eglinton Avenue West at Gardiner Road.
Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Chaplin Crescent and Eglinton Avenue West, then detour:
westward along Eglinton West; and then
northward along Bathurst Street to Elm Ridge Drive / Roselawn Avenue,
resuming their regular route northward along Bathurst.Westbound buses skip their regular stops
- on Chaplin Crescent beside #340 Chaplin, across from the walkway to the Shallmar Apartments and at Roselawn Avenue and
- on Roselawn Avenue at Bathurst Street.
Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on Eglinton Avenue West across from Spadina Road and at Vesta Drive and Old Forest Hill Road and
- on Bathurst Street across from Wembley Road, at Vesta Drive, Shallmar Boulevard and Roselawn Avenue.
