Lawrence Station "Easier Access" project: Secondary exits / entrances close, starting October 17

The TTC is continuing its “Easier Access” program to install elevators in its rapid-transit stations, making the subway system accessible for everyone. The program supports the government of Ontario’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The provincial legislation commits the TTC to achieving a barrier-free transit system by 2025.

At Lawrence Station, the TTC is installing two new elevators to improve passenger safety and convenience. This upgrade includes hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, structural and architectural components.

This October, crews are upgrading the interior electrical supply and generally maintaining the station and removing asbestos. This work requires the TTC to close the Bedford Park Avenue and Ranleigh Avenue entrance / exits, starting Monday, October 17. Both southern main entrances / exits of the station — on Lawrence avenues east and west — remain open.

During the project:

  • The TTC is assigning Customer Service staff to both northern exits all day during the first week to direct passengers and distribute flyers about the closure.
  • Large signs will appear throughout Lawrence Station advising passengers about this closure and providing directions to the alternate entrance / exits.
  • You may experience noise, vibration and dust resulting from the work.

The project has no major impact to traffic on Yonge Street or Bedford Park and Ranleigh avenues. The project does not require the TTC to close the station, but other subway construction and maintenance projects do require the TTC to close the station and other nearby stations.

The TTC continues to close the entrances / exits at Lawrence Station at Bedford Park and Ranleigh avenues until November 11.
