Hurontario LRT - Queen Elizabeth Way: Hurontario / QEW closure affects GO, MiWay service, October 28 to 31

Metrolinx and its contractors continue construction of the Hurontario light rail transit line in Mississauga and Brampton.

From 10 p.m. Friday, October 28 until 5 a.m. Monday, October 31, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation is closing

  • the Queen Elizabeth Way at Hurontario Street

to accommodate construction of a “push box” — a large structure that will form a new underpass on Hurontario at the QEW to support the future LRT.

The ministry is restricting traffic along the QEW to two lanes in each direction east and west of the Hurontario interchange. It’s also detouring traffic onto the off- and on-ramps to bypass main highway at Hurontario Street.

The City of Mississauga is also closing to all traffic during the same period:

  • Hurontario Street between North and South Service Roads.

The closure also prevents pedestrian and cyclist access to this part of Hurontario. Paid-duty Peel Region Police officers and traffic-control personnel will allow access to emergency vehicles.

GO Transit passengers aboard buses along these routes can expect significant delays and detours during the closure of the QEW:

  • 16 Hamilton / Toronto express; and
  • 21 Milton / Toronto.

MiWay is detouring buses along this route during the closure:

  • 2 Hurontario.

Crews are working “around the clock” for 55 hours to install the push box. Residents and business people near the work site can expect more traffic on local streets and to hear noise and feel vibration from trucks, excavators, backhoes, and other construction equipment.
