Streetcars return to Carlton; TTC revises detour, November 2



Wednesday, November 2, the City of Toronto has reopened

  • the intersection of Carlton Street with Church Street

to traffic. Reopening the street means that the TTC project to replace the streetcar tracks at the intersection has ended. Crews started working on the project in early August.

The TTC continues to detour buses and streetcars along these routes, due to ongoing construction on College Street:

  • 306 Carlton overnight; and
  • 506 Carlton.

Shuttle buses replace the cars between Ossington Avenue and Bay Street.

Construction on College Street and the resulting TTC detours continue until December 31.


506 Carlton

Starting Wednesday, November 2, eastbound streetcars operate along their regular route to College Street and Ossington Avenue, then detour:

southward along Ossington;
eastward along Dundas Street West; and then
northward along Bay Street to College,
resuming their regular route eastward along College.

Eastbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on College Street at Crawford and Grace streets, Manning Avenue, Bathurst Street, across from Borden Street and at Augusta and Spadina Avenues, St. George and McCaul streets, University Avenue and Elizabeth and Bay streets.

Instead, eastbound cars drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Ossington Avenue at Churchill Avenue and Dundas Street West,
  • on Dundas Street West at Shaw Street, across from Grace Street and at Manning Avenue, Bathurst Street, at Denison and Spadina avenues, Huron, Beverley and McCaul Streets, University Avenue and Chestnut and Bay streets and
  • on Bay Street at Elm Street, beyond Gerrard Street West and at College Street.

Shuttle buses replace the cars between Ossington Avenue and Bay Street. Eastbound streetcar passengers may transfer to eastbound buses on College Street at Ossington.

Westbound cars reverse the eastbound detour routing.

Westbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on College Street at University Avenue, across from McCaul Street and at St. George Street, Spadina Avenue, Major, Borden and Bathurst streets, Euclid Avenue, Grace and Crawford streets and Ossington Avenue.

Instead, westbound cars serve passengers at temporary stops

  • on Bay Street at Gerrard Street West, Elm Street and Dundas Street West,
  • on Dundas Street West at Chestnut street, University Avenue, McCaul and Beverley streets, Spadina and Denison avenues, Bathurst Street, Manning Avenue, Grace and Shaw streets and Ossington Avenue and
  • on Ossington Avenue across from Churchill Avenue and College Street.

Shuttle buses replace the cars between Bay Street and Ossington Avenue. Westbound streetcar passengers may transfer to westbound buses on between Parliament and Bay streets.

506 Carlton shuttle buses

Starting Thursday, October 13, the TTC revises the path for buses along the route. The buses replace streetcars along the 506 Carlton route between Parliament Street and Ossington Avenue.

Eastbound buses start their trips in Ossington Station bus terminal, then proceed:

southward along Ossington Avenue;
eastward along Harbord Street and Hoskin Avenue;
southward along Queen’s Park Crescent West, Queen’s Park and University Avenue;
eastward along Gerrard streets west and east;
northward along Parliament Street;
eastward along Bloor Street East; and then
northward into Castle Frank Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • in Ossington Station bus terminal,
  • on Ossington Avenue at Hepbourne Street,
  • on Harbord Street beyond Ossington Avenue, at Crawford and Grace streets, Bathurst Street, Brunswick and Spadina avenues and St. George Street,
  • on Hoskin Avenue beside Wycliffe College,
  • on Queen’s Park at College Street,
  • on Parliament Street beyond Gerrard Street East, at Carlton and Winchester streets, beyond Wellesley Street East, across from St. James Avenue and at Bloor Street East and
  • in Castle Frank Station bus terminal.

Eastbound bus passengers may transfer to eastbound streetcars on Parliament Street beyond Gerrard Street East.

Westbound buses start their trips in Castle Frank Station bus terminal, then proceed:

westward along Bloor Street West;
southward along Parliament Street;
westward along Gerrard streets east and west;
northward along University Avenue, Queen’s Park and Queen’s Park Crescent East;
southward along Queen’s Park Crescent West;
westward along Hoskin Avenue and Harbord Street;
northward along Ossington Avenue; and then
westward into Ossington Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Westbound bus passengers may transfer to westbound streetcars on College at Ossington.

Westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • in Castle Frank Station bus terminal,
  • on Parliament Street beyond Howard Street, St. James Avenue and Wellesley Street East and at Winchester and Carlton Streets and Gerrard Street East,
  • on Gerrard Street West beyond Elizabeth Street,
  • on Queen’s Park beyond College Street,
  • on Queen’s Park Crescent East at Wellesley Street East,
  • on Hoskin Avenue beside Trinity College and at St. George Street,
  • on Harbord Street at Spadina and Brunswick avenues, Bathurst Street, Manning Avenue, Grace and Crawford streets and Ossington Avenue,
  • on Ossington Avenue across from Hepbourne Street and
  • in Ossington Station bus terminal.

Westbound bus passengers may transfer to westbound streetcars on College Street at Ossington Avenue.
