Bloor GO / UPX Station: Construction affects West Toronto Railpath access, starting January 23



Metrolinx continues a project to upgrade Bloor Go Transit / Union Pearson Express Station as part of the GO Expansion Program.


Starting Monday, January 23, construction at the station blocks part of the West Toronto Railpath between Ernest Avenue and south of the Bloor Street West pedestrian bridge. A detour path is available. Metrolinx is using this part of the railpath to to build a new pedestrian tunnel, covered pavilion and noise wall and to lay the groundwork for a new railway track.

If you’re using the railpath, give yourself extra time and look for detour information on signs. The detour may add several minutes to your commute. Access to the station from Ernest Avenue, including a ramp to Platform 1, remains available. The work zone also blocks the pedestrian bridge and the nearby north side stairs at Bloor Street West. Use the UP Express entrance at the north side of Bloor Street West to get to the station and Railpath. If you have accessibility needs, follow accessible route signs and get to the station and railpath from the UP Express entrance on the north side of Bloor Street West. Access to the station remains available from Dundas Street West.

The work zone continues to block the Railpath “until early next year”, meaning construction continues as late as until March 31, 2024.


How to get to the station and access the West Toronto Railpath

Travelling southward along the railpath toward Bloor Street West:

  • Use the ramp or stairs at Ernest Avenue to access Platform 1.
  • Head towards the UP Express staircase and elevator at the south end of the station. Look for the black columns and wood ceiling.
  • Take the staircase or elevator to the lower level and exit the station doors onto Bloor Street.
  • Turn left toward Symington Avenue. At Symington Avenue, turn right and cross to the south side of Bloor Street.
  • Head westward along Bloor Street toward the pedestrian bridge and use the staircase on the south side of the bridge to get back onto the railpath.
  • If you have accessibility needs, follow steps 1-4, then head westward along Bloor Street West and turn left onto Sterling Road. Continue onto Sterling Road to access the south end of the railpath at Dundas Street West.

Travelling northward along the railpath toward Bloor Street West:

  • If you have accessibility needs, do not enter the railpath at the Dundas Street West entrance. Instead, head northward along Sterling Road until you reach Bloor Street West and then follow steps 2-5 below.
  • Head north toward the Bloor Street pedestrian bridge. Take the stairs beside the bridge down to Bloor Street West.
  • Turn right toward Symington Avenue. At Symington Avenue, cross to the north side of Bloor Street West and turn left toward the pedestrian bridge.
  • Use the first set of doors under the bridge, on your right side, to access Bloor GO /UPX Station.
  • Use the elevator or stairs to get to the platform level.
  • Head to the north end of the platform and get back onto the railpath using the ramp or stairs at Ernest Avenue.

How you’ll benefit from construction at Bloor GO / UPX Station

Metrolinx is:

  • building a new fourth track, about 2.5 kilometers long, between Dupont Street and Lansdowne Avenue to increase capacity along the Kitchener Line;
  • building a new pedestrian tunnel to connect the station with Randolph Avenue;
  • adding a covered pedestrian pavilion to access the station;
  • re-aligning the West Toronto Railpath multi-use trail and adding plantings, gardens, and seating
  • installing a new community park on the West Toronto Railpath at Ernest Avenue;
  • installing a Noise barrier and retaining wall; and
  • changes the Bloor Street West pedestrian bridge, which will include a taller fence on the west side to increase safety.

Metrolinx and GO plan to accommodate more passengers and increase service along the Kitchener line, as part of their GO Expansion Program (formerly “regional express rail”).
