Woodward / Barton East Hamilton construction: HSR detour, starting April 11



Starting 7 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, the City of Hamilton is closing

  • Woodward Avenue just south of Barton Street East

to accommodate construction crews who are installing a new utility access portal (or “manhole”).

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses along this route, while the street is closed:

  • 2 Barton.

Utility-access-portal construction and the resulting HSR detour continue until April 28.


2 Barton

From 7 a.m. Tuesday, April 11 until 5 p.m. Friday, April 28, inbound buses operate along their regular path to Barton Street East and Waverly Avenue, then detour:

northward along Waverly;
westward along Vansitmart Avenue;
southward along Woodward Avenue;
eastward along Barton East;
southward along Waverly; and then
westward along Melvin Avenue to Woodward,
resuming their regular path westward along Melvin.

Inbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Woodward Avenue at Melvin Avenue.

Outbound buses operate along their regular path to Melvin Avenue and Woodward Avenue, then detour:

eastward along Melvin; and then
northward along Osborne Street to Barton Street East,
resuming their regular path eastward along Barton East.

Outbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Woodward Avenue beyond Melvin Avenue and
  • on Barton Street East at Waverly Street.

Inbound buses operate toward downtown.

Outbound buses operate away from downtown.
