Update — Friday, September 1, 10:37 a.m. — Starting Tuesday, September 3, the City is proceeding with the project. The TTC is replacing streetcars with buses along the entire 512 St Clair route due to this and other projects on St. Clair Avenue West. Buses along the 47 Lansdowne route resume their regular path.
Update — Friday, June 30, 4:46 p.m.: The City is postponing the project. Starting Wednesday, July 4, the TTC is resuming streetcars along the 512 St Clair route. It continues to extend the path for buses along the 47 Lansdowne route to and from Gunns Loop.
The City of Toronto is rehabilitating St. Clair Avenue West at the Metrolinx bridge that carries GO Transit trains along the Barrie line just west of Caledonia Road / Caledonia Park Road.
According to the City, “This work will ensure that the bridge meets today’s standards and remains safe for vehicles and pedestrians into the future.”
The City’s contractor will:
- repair and refurbish the bridge;
- reface concrete on the deck, the deck soffit, the piers and the tops of the pier footings;
- reconstruct ballast curbs, sidewalks, supporting ribs and concrete posts on top of bridge deck
- remove ballast on east side of deck, sidewalks and ballast curbs
- repair concrete patch on the deck top, soffit, abutment walls and caps, retaining walls, and pier caps.
- install new galvanized steel railings;
- rebuild concrete sidewalks and apply concrete sealer on the bridge structure;
- reinstate electrical conduits and install new junction boxes and street lighting; and
- rebuild new steel beam guide-rail at the southwest corner and the concrete toe wall at the northwest corner.
During this project, the TTC must temporarily remove the overhead streetcar wiring system to ensure the safety of workers during the project.
