Queen East / Don River bridge construction affects TTC service, starting May 21

Starting Sunday, May 21, the TTC and the City of Toronto start a project to upgrade the bridge that carries traffic along Queen Street East over the Don River and the Don Valley Parkway.

The roadway remains open to traffic, but the work zone blocks the centre lanes and prevents streetcars from operating across the bridge.

The TTC has already been detouring streetcars along this route while Metrolinx contractors start Ontario Line construction on Queen streets west and east between Bay and Victoria streets:

Shuttle buses replace the cars **between Broadview Avenue and McCaul Street. Passengers aboard the buses should expect delays between Davies Avenue and River Street.

The transit agency is also already detouring streetcars along this route due to sewer construction on Broadview Avenue north of Gerrard Street East:

Buses continue to replace streetcars along the 304 King overnight route, with the buses following the regular path 304 path.

Construction and maintenance work on the Queen East / Don River bridge and the resulting TTC service changes continue until May 28.

This year, the City of Toronto and the TTC have started a series of major construction projects that significantly impact transit services in the east end of the former Toronto city — between Victoria Park Avenue and the Don River.

The various projects include:
