GO buses replace trains along the Lakeshore West line between West Harbour and Oakville, late July 7, all day, July 8 and 9

2023 - 07-07 - Buses replace Lakeshore West trains.jpg

Starting late Friday, July 7 until the end of service Sunday, July 9, GO Transit is significantly adjusting service along the 01 Lakeshore West line. Buses replace trains between West Harbour and Oakville GO stations as Metrolinx prepares for upcoming construction of a grade separation (overpass) at Burloak Drive. Crews need to move infrastructure in the corridor and can only do this when trains aren’t operating.

Most trains operate only between Oakville and Union Station. However, trains to and from Niagara Falls start and end their trips in Burlington GO Station. The buses that replace the main-line trains also stop in Burlington to drop off or pick up Niagara passengers.

Note that GO buses can only carry two bikes each. GO is advising cyclists travelling to and from Niagara Falls to consider biking between Oakville and Burlington — possibly along the Waterfront Trail.

Schedules and connection times are different this weekend. Be sure to check schedules before you head to your station and give yourself extra time to get to where you want to travel. Passengers aboard buses along the 15 Brantford / Burlington, 18 Lakeshore West and 21 Milton / Mississauga / Toronto routes may have to wait longer in stations for connecting buses or trains.

Adjusting the schedules for Lakeshore West trains also affects service along the 09 Lakeshore East line. Lakeshore East trains leave stations 15 minutes later than usually. GO is also adjusting the schedules for the 88 Peterborough / Oshawa route so that bus passengers may connect with trains in Oshawa GO Station.

PRESTO fare-card users: remember to tap on and off for each portion of your trip when switching between vehicles. If you have set a train-trip default between Union and West Harbour - you need to temporarily override this setting by:

  • pressing the mode button on the PRESTO device one time and then tap to override your default trip; and
  • remembering to tap off at the end of your trip. Your default trip will still be set on your card the next time you take the GO train.

Regular service resumes Monday, July 10.
