Weekend events affect transit services, July 12 to 16



The annual Honda Indy Toronto from Wednesday, July 12 until Sunday, July 16 dominates central Toronto and the list of events affecting transit services this weekend.

Central Toronto also hosts two more street events this weekend, while other special events also affect transit services in Brampton, Hamilton and Milton.

Brampton Farmers Market

Saturday mornings and early afternoons until October 7, the City of Brampton is closing

  • Wellington Street West between George and Main Streets South

to accommodate the city’s weekly farmers market.

GO Transit is likely detouring service while the street is closed, but has not announced detour routings.

31A / 31E / 31F / 31K / 31L / 31X Guelph / Georgetown / Toronto

Until 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, eastbound buses likely operate along their regular route to Downtown Brampton Terminal, then detour:

eastward along Nelson Street West; and then
southward along Main Streets North and South to Wellington Street,
resuming their regular route southward along Main South.

Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at all stops.

Westbound buses reverse the eastbound detour routing.

Westbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Wellington Street West at George Street South.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stopping

  • on Main Street South south of Wellington Street East.

Art Crawl

The City of Hamilton is closing

  • James Street North between Murray Street and York Boulevard / Wilson Street

Friday evening to accommodate the James Street North Business Association’s monthly event.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses, while the street is closed.

20 A-Line express

From 6 until 11 p.m. Friday, July 14, southbound buses operate along their regular route to James Street North and Murray Street, then detour:

eastward along Murray East;
southward along John Street North; and then
westward along Wilson Street to James North,
resuming their regular route southward along James.

  • on James Street North at Barton Street West and Colbourne Street, across from Robert Street and beyond Cannon Street West.

The City of Hamilton is closing

  • Locke Street South between Hunter Street West and Herkimer Street

Sunday morning, afternoon and early evening to accommodate the Locke Street Shops’ monthly street event.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses during the event.

From 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 16, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Dundurn Street South and Chatham Street, then detour:

northward along Dundurn South; and then
eastward along Main Street West to Locke Street South,

  • on Chatham Street beside #41 Chatham and at Locke Street South and
  • on Locke Street South beyond Hunter Street West and at Main Street West.

The City of Toronto is closing

  • Bloor Street West between Lansdowne Avenue and Dufferin Street

all day Saturday and Sunday and early Monday to accommodate the Bloordale Village Business Improvement Area’s annual event

The TTC is detouring buses during the event.

Sunday, July 16, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Bloor Street West and Lansdowne Avenue, then detour:

northward along Lansdowne;
eastward along Dupont Street; and then
southward along Dufferin Street to Bloor West,

Festival of India Parade

Toronto’s Annual Festival of India launches with a spectacular parade, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, that cruises along Yonge Street from Edward Street, north of Dundas Street West, making its way down to the lake. During the parade, participants hand-pull three ornate, 3.5-metre-tall (40-foot-tall) floats amid ecstatic singing, drumming and dancing, creating a wondrous, carnival-like atmosphere.

The event affects TTC services.

19 Bay

From about 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15, expect detours and delays as the parade proceeds along Queens Quay East.

202 Cherry Beach

From about 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15, expect detours and delays as the parade proceeds along Yonge Street and Queens Quay East.

121 Esplanade - River

From about 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 15, expect delays as the parade proceeds along Yonge Street at Front Street. Toronto Police Service officers will let buses proceed through gaps in the parade.

505 Dundas

From 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 until 3 a.m. Monday, July 17, the City of Toronto is closing:

  • Lake Shore Boulevard West between British Columbia Road and Strachan Avenue

to accommodate the annual motorsports festival.

Exhibition Place is also closing a number of streets, including:

  • Canada Boulevard,
  • Manitoba Drive,
  • Nova Scotia Avenue,
  • Ontario Drive and
  • Princes’ Boulevard

during the event.

The event affects GO Transit and TTC service.

GO Transit
31A / 31F / 31L Guelph / Georgetown / Toronto

From Wednesday, July 12 until Sunday, July 16, expect delays on the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway near Exhibition Place due to extra traffic congestion resulting from motorists avoiding the Lake Shore Boulevard West closure.

From 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16, buses operate to and from Port Credit GO Station. At Port Credit, board trains along the 01 Lakeshore West line to travel to and from Union Station and downtown Toronto.

The Brampton Farmers Market also affects service along this route Saturday, July 15.

16 Hamilton / Toronto express

From Wednesday, July 12 until Sunday, July 16, expect delays on the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway near Exhibition Place due to extra traffic congestion resulting from motorists avoiding the Lake Shore Boulevard West closure.

From 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16, buses operate to and from Aldershot GO Station. At Aldershot, board trains along the 01 Lakeshore West line to travel to and from Union Station and downtown Toronto.

21A / 21B Milton / Toronto

From Wednesday, July 12 until Sunday, July 16, expect delays on the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway near Exhibition Place due to extra traffic congestion resulting from motorists avoiding the Lake Shore Boulevard West closure.
