YRT revises routes and services, starting September 3: Highlights

September is on the calendar and that means that summer is ending and classes at secondary and post-secondary schools are starting. And, people are returning to workplaces after vacations.

All of the transit agencies in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area are making changes to their services over the next few days — some of them, including the TTC and Brampton Transit, are making fairly extensive changes. That requires us at Transit Toronto to put together a lot of information during a short time.

We’ve decided to temporarily publish only highlights of the changes so that readers can receive information while it’s still timely. Shortly afterward, we will fill in the details for each post so you can get our usual extensive look at the various changes the agencies are making.

York Region Transit is revising its routes and services, starting Sunday, September 3.

The big news in this service change is that YRT no longer charges a “premium” or extra fare for passengers travelling aboard buses along its express routes.

And, while we’re on the topic of express buses, YRT is introducing a new express route — the 361 Nashville express — for passengers travelling to and from the Nashville and Sonoma Heights communities and business in the Vaughan Enterprise Zone. The buses start and end their trips in Highway 407 GO Bus Terminal.

Due to fewer riders during the pandemic, YRT has suspended service along these routes:

  • Viva blue “A”;
  • Viva green;
  • 31 Aurora North;
  • 42 Berczy;
  • 45 Mingay;
  • 51 Keswick local;
  • 57A Mulock
  • 58 Mount Albert; and
  • 84 Oak Ridges.

YRT has now confirmed that it will not be resuming service along these routes. It says it is redistributing resources, including buses and service hours, to other routes and services with growing passenger demand.

It has also continued to suspend service along other routes since the start of the pandemic:

  • 10 Woodbridge - YRT plans to resume service along the route in early 2024.
  • Viva pink - YRT is reviewing service along the route. It will communicate more information when it has determine the status of the service.
