TTC conducting emergency exercise on Line 4, September 17

This Sunday, September 17, the TTC is conducting an early-morning subway emergency simulation on Line 4 Sheppard, which “will test the effectiveness of emergency response and evacuation procedures”.

The exercise involves the evacuating passengers from a subway station and from a train trapped in the subway tunnel.

You can see activities resulting from the simulation at Don Mills Station and the Buchan Court emergency exit, which involve about 300 actors simulating passengers, including some as casualties. You may also see white, non-toxic theatrical smoke may from subway ventilation shafts during the simulation.

Toronto Fire Services, Toronto Paramedic Services and Toronto Police Service are also participating in the exercise.

The simulation occurs from 2 until 11 a.m. To accommodate the exercise, subway service along Line 4 doesn’t start until noon. Sunday. Shuttle buses to partly replace full subway service operate from about 8 a.m. until noon.
