Weekend events affect transit services, September 21 to 24



Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s annual all-night arts festival takes place this weekend and the TTC is offering festival-goers all-night subway service to help them travel to and from the various venues this weekend.

Nuit Blanche and other events in the Ancaster area of Hamilton, Brampton, Burlington, central Hamilton, the North York area of Toronto, Oshawa and the central area of Toronto affect transit services this weekend, Friday, September 22, Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24.

Ancaster Fair

The Hamilton Street Railway is again operating shuttle bus service from the Meadowlands Terminal to the fairgrounds, south of Wilson Street West (City Highway 2) on Trinity Road, as it has during previous fairs. It’s also operating express shuttle buses between downtown Hamilton and the fair.

Eastbound buses leave Ancaster Fairgrounds at

  • 5:25 p.m. and every 70 minutes until 8:55 p.m., then 10 and 11 p.m. Friday, September 22,

The buses start their trips at the fairgrounds north of the free parking area, just west of Gate 2, then proceed:

eastward through Gate 2;
northward along Trinity Road;
eastward along Wilson Street West;
northward along Highway 403; and then
eastward along Main Street West;
northward along John Street South; and then
westward along King streets east and west to across from Frank A. Cooke Terminal,
ending their trips.

Buses drop off passengers only:

  • on Main Street West at Dundurn, Poulette, Queen and MacNab streets south and
  • on King Street West across from Frank A. Cooke Terminal.

Running for Rachael

The management of CF Lime Ridge mall in Hamilton are closing some of the roadways on the property Sunday morning to accommodate the annual run, supporting the city-wide work of suicide prevention in Hamilton. Closing the roadways blocks Hamilton Street Railway bus access to Lime Ridge terminal.

The HSR is detouring buses along these routes, while the event blocks access to the terminal.

Nuit Blanche Toronto

The TTC is key in getting around town during the all-night arts and entertainment festival, this weekend, Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24.

The City of Toronto is closing

  • Bay Street between Dundas and Front Streets West from 5 a.m. Saturday until 11:59 p.m. Sunday;
  • Queen Street West between York and Bay streets from 9 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Sunday;

and various other streets in downtown Toronto and near the Humber College’s Lakeshore campus and the Scarborough Civic Centre Friday, Saturday and Sunday to accommodate the festival.

The TTC operates subway and rapid transit trains all night along the entire length of its two main subway lines. Even though the subways operate all night, the TTC is also maintaining regular service along its Blue Night Network of overnight bus and streetcar routes. However, unlike most nights, overnight transit vehicles stop to drop off or pick up passengers in rapid transit station terminals. And, the TTC is detouring service downtown near City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square.
